<p>there are hundreds of Fellowships available for current college students when they apply to graduate school, though.</p>
<p>basically the more i learn about GMS the more is kind of makes me mad lol ok when i first found out about this scholarship they make it seem like it covers full tuition for all 4 yrs and you get living expenses and this and that. Then i found out it jsut covers student help…which is fine…but my parents still have to pay a huge amount for family contribution which i still feel i need to help them with…and now i realize we dont get living expenses money…i got my check but i think my work study money is on that check…to be cashed and given to my university…not to me…so that doesnt help me with living expenses. My total award from GMS is just going to be $4500 a year if my finacial aid status doesnt change…not a lot when you break it down…life is upsetting right now lol</p>

<p>first, have you been in communication with your financial aid counselor? that is the key step in securing the proper amount of financial aid.</p>
<p>by being in contact with the financial aid officer at my school, i have been able to secure money for travel, a computer, etc. in addition to the other expenses.</p>
<p>true, the gates award does not include the EFC, however, (you saw the form) it is calculated based on Cost of Attendance - Prior Scholarships/University Aid - EFC = Gates Award.</p>
<p>My check from GMS to give to my school is being sent to me, but I want to know, is it to late to get money for my books, laptop, parking permits,etc.? I wasn’t aware that I could get help on these things until a week ago. I’m really confused on how all this financial stuff works. I need help, thanx!!!</p>
<p>I juste-mailed my Northwestern gates advisor and she told me they can fund a computer up to $1500 
and i just sent her an email back regarding funds for books and personal expenses that were not included in the check…im glad i asked…and since they do pay for books …im sure she will adjust what gates gives me…because she is going to have to now for the computer.</p>

<p>Its not to late to have your university change your gates package…disregard what that person has said. It was done for me…and she broke down how much i get each quarter for books and personal expenses (gates doesntgive too much but o well)…and shes getting me the compter thing but what i dont get is she said it can cover up to 1500 for a computer but that i have to fax her an estimate cost then she will give me a loan and if its processed i get it back the first day of school. Does this mean i am essentially pay for the computer? Or do I have to wait for the money they give me after it has been processed so I can pay the loan for the computer?</p>
<p>what i meant was, the checks have already been mailed out. that is why you will have to get a temporary loan for your computer–your school will probably just bill Gates for the computer in addition to your financial aid.</p>
<p>my financial aid officer said my money increases $2000 when classes start supposedly for a comp but i already have one so u can really use it for anything. the only thing im paying for up front is the plane tickets then theyll refund me.</p>

<p>did any of you guys receive other scholarships? what did you guys do with them? my counselor suggested that I contact the people in charge of the other scholarships and ask for a deferment until grad school.</p>
