<p>theres two. ones in VA and i think ones in washington. but i have no idea exactly WHEN it is. the last letter said that the next letter they sent would be about when the conference is but gms is so damn slow.</p>

<p>1.) transportation–>My school said GATES will only be paying for 2 roundtrip flights…that’s not even enough for xmas, thanksgiving, beginning/end of the yr and spring break. anybody else experiencing that?? current gmsp how did u get around that block?</p>

<li>My financial aid counselor requested that GMS pay for health insurance for me, so GMS complied.</li>
<li>There isn’t a stipend, but they DO give you the work study money. So, if you had a $2000 work study award, that money will be yours.</li>
<li>Covers everything that isn’t a grant from the school: loans, work-study, unmet need.</li>

<p>The amount of aid provided to you by the Gates Foundation is greatly influenced by your financial aid officer. Talk to that person and explain exactly what you absolutely need as far as covered expenses. I am sure you can work something out. Personally, insurance was not covered because I already have it. However, Gates did cover costs for a new computer and four round-trip tickets for travel.</p>
<p>OMG!!! Gates pays for traveling for you to go back and forth to school!!! i didnt kno that?? how do u work that out? what do i need to do? do i need to call them? they paid for your computer too? what do i need to do just call them? just call them and ask???</p>
<p>Payment for my travel expenses and the computer was the work of my financial aid officer. Talk to yours. It would your best bet since the financial aid officer is the person in charge of negotiating the award amount with gates.</p>

<p>yeah, I did. I found it saddening that, starting with our graduating class of 2010, Gates is limiting the amount of graduate award money to $20K for public grad schools and $30K for private per year. It is also a little upsetting that they currently do not cover the costs of med school.</p>

<p>Question: Since Gates Scholars receive money to cover their work-study (and other self-help)… are we not entitled to work-study during the actual school year because we have technically “earned” the maximum amount of work-study money possible?.. I’d like to manage a light work-study job during the school year if possible. I hope this question makes sense.</p>
<p>At Rice University, I will be allowed to do work study and keep the money for myself. I don’t know if that is the policy of your school, too–but it should be no problem.</p>
