Gates Millennium - 2006-2007

im in at clemson, georgia tech, and university of michigan

im in at texas tech, university of texas, and ohio state honors engineering (computer science). i also applied to UVA but in all liklihood i will go to osu. i love it there.

btw…675 ppl were on the mass emailing list. (My email server counted all the emails…)

GMS has made clear that there are 1000 scholarship winners every year. That being said, there prolly will be a few more emails sent over the next several days. I wouldnt worry just yet. Good luck to all who applied

Yeah, I’m pretty bummed I haven’t received an e-mail yet. I thought I was extremely well qualified. Well, I hope to hear something within the next few days.

I got the email, but I’m wondering how much of these people will be the final winners.

Yeah, the lady told me that notification will start from the 15th to the 30th, guess they started early…But still there is time…they probably separated it by region or something like that…

I noticed the 675 emails too… but from what I could tell that’s just for the hispanic applicants… which leads me to believe… the asian and african americans will be about the same in numbers (and then there are the native americans)…

So from around 1800-2000… they will cut almost half…

ok so wait. Are they doing it by race or region? Why couldn’t they just notifiy all finalists at the same time? So we could sit on pins and needles lol.

Welll I believe different agencies do it for the different races… for example… the email we received came from someone at: hsf.net

My status over the toll-free number is “current processing.” What does this mean?

It probably means they are making a decision. What region do you live in or what’s your race because I guess they are notifying people by one of the two categories.

It has to be by race because hsf.net is the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. To those who received it already, are you guys hispanic?

Yes, I am hispanic.

Thats the point I was trying to make… (with the hsf.net)… and yes I’m hispanic.

So does the United Negro College Fund contact African-American finalists? and then all the other respective organizations for the other demographics? That’s a chopped up way of doing it, but however they want it I guess.

What about Asian-Americans like myself?

Thats what I was asking. I don’t know what organization represents the Asian-Americans or Native Americans.

The asian semifinalists will probably be notified next week. AHH I Can’t wait!

“The United Negro College Fund administers the Gates Millennium Scholars Program in partnership with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the Organization of Chinese Americans and the American Indian Graduate Center Scholars.” ONLY CHINESE AMERICANS? WHAT IF I’M VIETNAMESE?

I’m Vietnamese too. Asians will be notified next week? Where did you hear that, or is it just a guess?
