just a guess

Who knows? All we can do is wait or call tomorrow and ask questions…I’m still not understanding this cut off…like what do they look for in the event that you might be cut off… is it because you’re not elgible for pell grant, grades, extracurriculars…? I mean what??..

yea if anyone knows the answer to the question asked by psionix make sure and post in on here.

My main question is how many people are selected as finalists?

uhhhhhhhhhh…

its a review process of your application. they look at what you submitted and make decisions. like any other app. its a matter of how well you write your essays, what kinda student you are, your background, etc.

keep yalls fingers crossed :)

Tuba Guy, I woulda never guessed
He meant how MANY people are selected as finalists.

To those who received the email, will you please copy and paste the message?

Dear Keenya Hofmaier,

You have been selected to advance to the second phase of the Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) screening and selection process. You will receive correspondence in the mail within a few days for your personal records. To verify your eligibility for further consideration, we must receive the following documents on or before April 7, 2006 as soon as each document becomes available.

A copy of your Admission Acceptance Letter from the college or university you plan to attend on a full-time basis in the fall of 2006. You can send any Admissions Letter in your possession; it does not have to be the school that you will ultimately attend.

A copy of your most recent High School Transcript (which must include grades up to the fall semester of the 12th grade) or GED certificate.

· A copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR). This document will be mailed to you upon completion of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or will be available online if you filed electronically.

If you have not already done so, you must file the U.S. Department of Education Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form immediately. We recommend that you file the FAFSA form electronically for faster processing and response time. The form is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Please FAX the requested documents to the GMS program office at (703) 205-2079, as soon as each document becomes available. All documents must be submitted as soon as possible and received in this office no later than Friday, April 7, 2006.

Subsequent to the review of the requested documents, you will be notified if you are selected as a GMS Scholar. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the GMS program office at 1(800) 944-9627.

Oh yeah! I just got it too! I guess it is real then! Yay!

I made it to the second round as well…

I honestly wish all of us much luck… this is a pretty big deal <3

same here.
Good luck to you all.

I got it too! Wow. Did anyone on this forum not receive this? It seems like everyone from CC so far has received it. That’s great.

I havent … is there still possibly a chance?

I wonder how competitive the second round is… any statistics? Any anecdotes? I’m still a bit worrysome.

…Yea…what are the numbers like? How many advance?

Hey everybody I’ve been reading this forum and the one from last year’s scholars. You guys are RREAALLLYYY helpful… I have NOT got an email yet! but I’m STILL crossing my fingers because it just says “processing”… now here’s MY big question: How many of you who have received emails are applying through UNCF? And for everyone else please tell me what organization you are applying through

What do you mean? I never went rhough UNCF. I just applied online at www.gmsp.org
…do they automatically stick you with your race’s organization?

I only applied through GMS as well, but the email I got yesterday was from a @ocanatl.org address (I’m asian, obviously lol). So yes, there’s still a chance you could get the email. I thought my chances were shot too, but apprently not :)

@dtmcclain where does it say “processing”? I have no idea what my status is.

my understanding of it is they ask you which ethnic background are you most closely related to, and from that your application is processed through UNCF, OCA, HSF, and there’s another one or two I think for native americans… but yeah we all apply through GMSP.org… it’s just the scholarship is kinda divided by ethnic group once you send it in.
