I got in touch with the Mom. Apparently she was erroneously dropped from
the GMS rolls for 2 years undergrad at Duke. So this is some special arrangement with Gates because of error not of her making. . .

We go to Plan B

We go to Plan B

Do we have to make a cover sheet when we fax the documents or can we just send them one by one?

It’s better to have a cover sheet.

i gave my letter and SAR to my college counselor and she sent them out along with my transcript on Tuesday…how long will it be until i hear back? also i’m wondering what unweighted GPA and EFC is qualified to be a GMSP scholar? i have a 3.95 UW and EFC under 1800.

I’m sure you’re qualified.

Finally sent everything off! I had to mess around with the fax so many times before realizing that you have to put a dial 1 first. Oops!

Good luck everyone <3

machiavelli, I’m a similar situation. My family is dirt poor, but according to the gov’t, our house is worth enough to not allow me to qualify for a pell grant. I called the day after I was notified, and the lady practically told me to depend on getting a full ride from somewhere else, because I wouldn’t get any money for GMSP.

Which is why this sucks. What does the FAFSA really know about my family situation? My EFC is out of control anyway, which is why I need GM so much. Ugh…clearly I’m disgusted.

well you guys, if you guys want i can take a look at the official GMS handbook and see if i can answer some of your questions. Just send me a private or post it on here and ill try my best.

Good luck to all of those that made it to the second round and sent in their info.

AND…

This is what the handbook says about med school…

“Awards will NOT be made in graduate areas of study such as business, humanities, medicine, law,
social sciences, and theology.”

“EFC’s are not covered with the GMS scholarship”

HOWEVER…it does give graduate funding for the following areas:

Graduate Scholars must be degree-seeking students in one of the six GMS designated programs of
study.
 Education
 Engineering (including Computer Sciences)
 Library Science
 Mathematics
 Public Health (beginning 2005-2006)
 Science

Keep in mind that this is info from this academic year, and that in can change later on

If you guys have any more questions ill try to answer them as best as i can.

woah woah woah…SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING TOO!!! I’m praying to God now that I get in. LOL.

machiavelli, we’re in almost the exact same situation. -___-

brickbreeze, fafsa doesn’t include your house! what are you including your house under? you probably need to make a correction - maybe you DO qualify!

Eh…I guess you’re right. Maybe the CSS used my house. Then if not my house then what? Because my EFC is ridiculous.

does anyone know when we should hear back if we already sent in our materials?

browsing through last years posts-- it seems as if they get back to us around late April/early May

Has anyone here not gotten anything from GMSP yet? Do you think I still have a chance, or is it too late?

Hey guys,

I sent my materials like the day after i got them, if i remember correctly i got a letter on April 26 or at least that was the date on the letter.

And when did you get the first letter?

To Thienanl, I’m sorry to say, I think all of the emails notifying advancement to the next round are sent. But what do I know?!?!
Last years finalists were notified during late April/early May because the process last year was later. This year, it’s a lot earlier. codyis007 posted this on April 29, 2005

“The letter is postmarked the 26th – and as far as when I submitted everything…I think the 19th by the time it was all said and done.”

So he submitted the documents on the 19th and they arrived to a decision on the 26th. He received it on the 29th. SO TEN DAYS PEOPLE!!! I CAN’T WAIT!!! Or are my calculations wrong?

I’m just worrying if they lost my fax like someone said last year happened to them. I just want to know already.

I think he got it back a month later though? 10 days is awful fast…

a month? I don’t think so…sigh…the wait is really killing me. codyis007 received the finalist letter March 28 2005. S he must have submitted his docs on the 19th of April. And he received word on the 29th, so I’m pretty sure around 10 days!

I see now.

I’m wonder, why are they not requiring that we send in a financial aid package right now? Last year it seems that they had to send that in. This year, they merely want a college acceptance letter.

Vega, I hope you hear back soon. I know I want to find out soon as well. I sent my stuff in the day after I received my letter…
