Gates Millennium - 2007-2008

Just2Fitz:
I knew it! I thought I saw your user name somewhere  Congrats to you on the USA Funds Access to Education!

I don’t think I am gonna get selected for Gates. I’ve been thinking about it for days, and came to realization that maybe my community service and leadership roles just aren’t good/strong enough for them. I was honest and did my best on my application though and I explained my obstacles. It’s just upsetting to see that some students who really tried, helped others, worked hard in school, and need this scholarship, don’t get it. But can’t blame Gates, it offers full tuition, so the competition is definitely fierce. (sigh) I keep checking my emails, wanting to see if there’s anything from GMS, but… I’m just gonna try to forget about it, not get my hopes high. Anyways, my school CAP advisor that that I shouldn’t be stressing over this because I did my best and also, they haven’t finished notifying everyone yet.

Well, good luck to semi-finalists and those who haven’t heard from Gates yet

college18: i give you a digital hug. why? because i feel like i am in the same position. my heart extends to you :)

Hang in there, trust me!

now that i think about it, hows about i just give a digital hug to everyone!
DIGITAL HUG!

For the people who have made it to the second round and still waiting:

thank you, morangotango !
I hope we’ll both get selected…hope…fully

Yay! I got my email yesterday and today and…I have three copies of it, lol, each one with more information than the last. They apparently forgot to include the GPA form on the first one and the address on the second one, hence the third (and final?) email.

I’m Hispanic, yeppers.

SHAQUITA! It’s Aida, from Facebook and Discovery Weekend! lol.

Yep.

May I recommend a scholarship:

http://www.jackierobinson.org

I’ve heard that this is a great scholarship and I know many of you are so eager to apply to many like myself.

Also if you like long, elaborate applications then this one if for you!

you send the financial aid offer after you get selected as a scholar

I just received the email (actually like three emails and a letter) but anyways, I’ve maintained a 4.0 and I have an acceptance letter to a really good school that is really expensive. My question is since my EFC is about 2,500 does this make me elegible for the scholarship or is this too high. I’ve read many post with students with 0 EFC. So I’m getting worried that since I dont’ have to pay that much they might overlook my app.

Also for those that have 0 EFC, why do you need the scholarship. Aren’t your colleges going to pay for everything along with the Cal grants. Or does your financial aid package consist primarily of loans and you want that to get that paid for aswell.

You are eligible with your EFC.

The limit is at 3850.

I just called GMSP, and they told me that decisions will continue to go out until April 11th. They are just starting their second round of notifications. Makes me feel a little bit hopeful.

Good luck every one for the next round.

Yeah, Don Quijote, you are definitely eligible. :-)

bexline: thank you for posting about the notifications until April 11th. It makes me a little hopeful too. Thank you and

best of luck to all of us again

how can it be till the 11th of april? the deadline for sending in stuff for the second phase is april 6th

Hi Aida! You get to see me spaz out! Bexline…that’s super helpful…I called and the lady said “oh no we’re not done mailing” so I’ll keep my fingers crossed

I received my email yesterday evening around 5:00PM from Joan Currier, Acting Executive Director of the American Indian Graduate Center. I believe each area is responsible for notifying their candidates.

I still haven’t heard from any other American Indians out there? Surely I am not the only one on here?

Congatulations you guys!!! I am a second year Gates Scholar and glad to see many of you guys made it to the final selection phase. Now send those docs to Gates as soon as you can!! If you send those docs sooner the sooner you wil know if you were selected. I remember getting my letter of second phase selection around March 12 (the date the letter is dated) and received a letter telling me i was selected around early may. My brother also applied to Gates but i dont think he has heard back yet…AND He JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO BAYLOR!!! So gates will help alot! Good Luck Guys!!

Hello everyone, I have been reading all the posts. I received my letter of second phase selection. Will the final selection be based upon on three documents requested in the letter? I guess I am getting very anxious. Thanks for any insight or information.

To trevis: yes, the final selection will be based on these three documents. They will probably look more at your SAR report to see if you are eligible for the Pell Grant.

a girl in my school got notified yesterday… i have recieved nothing… my heart sinks deeper…
