Got nothing in the mail and I’m from LA which is super close to HSF . Not a good sign.
I didn’t get it and I have a family income of 18k for a family of 9… I’m just numb. I thought my essays were amazing, too

I didn’t get it, but congratulations to all the scholars! And to those of us that did not get it: don’t worry, be happy. This scholarship does not define who you are, you do. There will be more opportunities, life is full of them. Keep your head up and keep pushing. That’s why we are where we are. It’s been an honor to even be considered for being a Gates Millennium Scholar. Again, congratulations Gates Millennium Scholars Cohort ofor 2016! Make good use of this amazing oppurtunity!! =D>
To the people who are scholars, how long did it take for your docunents to verify?
@CuteyBrown Aww! I’m sad that you aren’t a scholar. Good luck in your scholarship search. I’m sure you will receive many other scholarships.
@2ne1islife I believe I sent my documents the Saturday I was declared a finalist and they were verified by the next Monday. My counselor sent my documents on time, but GMS didn’t receive them, so she had to resend them.The documents were verified within 1 week.

Congratulations to all the other scholars. To the non-selects, keep in mind that this very competitive scholarship does not define your intelligence or self-worth. I pray that you all receive other scholarships to finance your education.
@2ne1islife It only took me 3-4 days to get all of my documents verified and I didn’t get the scholarship, so it doesn’t matter how long it takes for your documents to be verified.
To everyone who was not selected, I am sure that you will all be extremely successful and end up doing great things!! Congratulations on all of your accomplishments and don’t be discouraged
@CuteyBrown How do you guys know that you all didn’t get it? Are you guys saying that because the award package did not come in for you guys or did a rejection letter come in the mail for you guys?
@CuteyBrown What organization do you belong to (ie. HSF, etc)
Im part of HSF and live around the headquarters and did not receive anything today.

@Yizra321 People that are not selected receive small envelopes stating that the student was not selected.
@exl028 I believe CuteyBrown is part of UNCF (United Negro College Fund).
@Ifeanyi1 it seems that most people who are receiving news from HSF are from Texas
@exl028 That makes sense. HSF sent out notifications a little earlier than the other partner organizations this year. I just checked and HSF is headquartered in California. The day that you receive your letter depends on how far away you are from California. However, you will definitely receive a letter this week.
@Ifeanyi1 well i am close to the headquarters in LA, and I have not received a letter yet, and neither have some other finalists. So I’m not sure what to think of it, because some have already received bad news from New York
Wow! That’s weird. I wish they would email students prior to the mailed letters.
