has anyone received their decision for this years gms scholarship yet? im still waiting for mine

My Rejection. lol. I didn’t really try hard on the application so I didn’t care about it. I just threw away the letter. jaja. I got it like last Friday so you should be getting yours soon as well. Good luck! : ]

Hey, I was chosen as a finalist, but I was just wondering, because when I first filled out my application, they asked for some of my grades, however, at that time I did not have my report card upfront, so I may have entered wrong grades. Do you think this will hurt my chances of being a scholar since they will see my actual grades. I still have what they require but not sure if this will hurt me.

Dear Student,

I am in the final phase of the Gates. I do have some advice for you though. The Gates is just that, a gate that you can use to achieve your goals of a better future. It does boil down to you and what you want out of life. When you go through the gate into the future it is very scary at times. I live on a reservation and to list all of the negatives I have had to deal with along the way, would take forever to document. This scholarship for aalot of us is the only chance that we will have to go on to college. I watched my mother struggle many times and I watched her pick herself up and keep going. I hope to go to college because she never got the chance. She tells me all of the time…endeavor to persevere…don’t look back…keep moving forward, because if you do then you will know that you are alive. Goals are important, but to reach hard goals you have to face hard work. I suggest 3 things:
- Believe in yourself and your potential.

Realize that all students face the same types of worries.
3. Don’t give up and keep moving forward.
Get help if you need it and only you know if you need help. Dont wait for problems to build, jump on them right away. Seek out other students that can offer support. Lean on your academic advisor. Keep your head on straight and realize that you are in control. Enjoy college but also realize it is just a step that you take to get you to where you want to be. Also, pick a major that will make you happy. Sometimes money doesn’t mean a thing if you are miseable doing the job you picked because of high pay scale. Other then that>>>>Hang on tight and enjoy the ride!

Was trying to make corrections but my computer posted this without corrections.

I’m a gates finalist myself and I sent my stuff off way before the deadline. But now, I’m just nervous about getting it or not. -crosses fingers and prays and hopes and hopes-

they sent me a warning on march 30, and my guidance counselor sweared that she had all the stuff sent on march 31. since w r on break, i havent been able to see her, but hopefully, she sent everything. i really want the scholarship to help reduce my student contribution and perhaps, even help me in the future w/ grad school.

I got like 10 missed call from my mom while I was in school. Apparently UPS dropped it off in front of my Apartment door at around 11:00 AM. Haha. The package is a little bigger than my college acceptance letter packages, and couldn’t fit in my mailbox, so I’m guessing many people will be hand delivered their Scholar Notifications like I was! (I personally like this way better anyways :D)… It was sent through UPS Next Day Air Saver, so I’m assuming it was sent yesterday! I submitted all of my Finalist documents on March 19th, so maybe I got it early. Man, I am so relieved! Good luck to the rest of my fellow Finalists!

Lol got it too. Big giant envelope…now hoping to get in through waitlist on some colleges to use this scholarship on.

welcome

I just got my huge UPS box today…or yesterday I guess.
I’ve read through the paperwork and see a lot about discussing with a financial aid officer like what to ask from the scholarship. Who exactly is my financial aid officer? I go to a small high school, so we only have guidance counselors…unless it means from our prospective college?

Thanks a bunch :]

Hi I see that you all were determined to receive the Gates Scholarship and many of you received it! I am going to apply for the Scholarship for 2009-2010. I will be a senior this year in high school and wanted to get all the advice possible so I to can become a finalist. I am thinking about beginning my essays this summer. How long should each essay be and for the question about what subject I excel in would I have a lesser chance of receiving the scholarship if I write about and actually school subject such as History??? It would be great if any of you could answer my questions! Thanks so much!

Is there a page where stats are posted? Or your answers to the questions??

do gates cover meds school?

No, med school is not covered. Only certain areas of graduate education are covered (Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Library Science, Mathematics, Public Health or Science).
