I feel like somebody mentioned (on past threads) that decisions were made on a rolling basis. So it is possible that people will be continually notified in the days to come, instead of all at once. crossing fingers…for me and everyone else on this thread who hasn’t received a letter!

I submitted the application around mid-December and I’m a Hispanic… I lost all hope…

How many finalists are selected from the overall pool of nominees? What I’m essentially asking is whether finalists can still be rejected for the scholarship or not, and, if so, based on what?

im asian
no reply
no happiness
not yet :p

I need to clear up a couple misconceptions:

1)They never release what proportion of applicants become finalist or what proportion of finalist become scholars. They only report what proportion of applicants become scholars

= 1,000 (scholars)/(# of applicants)

2)there is no such thing as “semi-finalist.” only finalist and non-finalists.

3)last year the earliest someone reported becoming a scholar on CC was the 26th of this month. This person sent in their information by the 14th of this month also.

4)if you do not receive an electronic notification (email) that you are a finalist by monday, (sorry) but chances are very slim. This “rule of thumb” does not necessarily apply to people who can only receive notifications through snail mail. last year a finalist received his notification on the 26th though postal mail.

5) don’t freak if you haven’t received a finalist notification yet. they do, however, send finalist notifications first and non-finalist notifications later.

6)according to GMS people, scholars ARE selected based on a rolling basis. According to empirical evidence from the CC threads, however, this has proved to sometimes not be the case.

7)I (personally) think everyone should send in their info as soon as possible. It seems reasonable that if you send in the documents earlier, the better chances you have of becoming a scholar (there are more spots to fill earlier on than later in the month)

8) good luck to all!!!

Does anyone know if there is more than one round? I would really like to hope that I can still get it because I cant even afford city college at this point.

I unfortunately have not received a notification email either. I am also African American. I am so nervous!!

I’m african american, this is why I’ve lost hope.

pgtori, why have you lost hope? I don’t believe that they have finished notifying all of the finalists. Don’t lose hope! :)
