Gates Millennium Scholarship 2009-2010

Do they send out another batch of emails or is whats done is done??
please clarify if anyone knows.
i just want to know

I tried to flip through the 2008-2009 GMS thread, but I still couldn’t figure one important thing. How hard is it to become a scholar once you’re a finalist? Does GMS just need to make sure that you are pell eligible, you have a college you’re going to and have good grades? Or is there like another stage of elimination and examination of the applicant?

bobslove where do u live? i mean which state? coast?

i live in california west coast.
others from west have gotten it.
i was just wondering if they send out a second wave of emails?

i hope they do!!! i’m in Colorado mountain time and i haven’t gotten anything yet!! >.<

ok same question, new posting!
has any african americans received their finalist status…plz i really need to know this bcuz this is very important!

im asian…i didn’t get any emails…am i done?
^ yeah, they received it like 3 days ago~~ along with H~

omg…idk what to think! im praying that i get one and they just come out at random instead of by race at a specific time! I have to keep the hope!

Maybe it is in batches. I am pretty sure that is what the old threads said. I live in central time zone. Where do you live, Ren?

Oh yes, and go mrs.jones! Optimism can and will do wonders if you allow it to! Regardless, going to college is what matters most. ;

Breathing Slowly
Geeze i dont even know if im going to be able to do hw today…and i have like a calc test and choir competition tmrw…

i hope they sent out in more batches.
CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS AGAIN??

yea i got a academic scholarship to my colllege but it doesnt cover everything so im counting on this scholarship.

I’m African-American and haven’t received notification either. sigh

“You tried your best and failed miserably. The lesson is: never try.” -Homer Simpson

haha, I’m just trying to make light of the situation, but I have a favor to ask. For those of you who received an e-mail notifying you that you were selected as a finalist, can you call the number to check your status and see what it says? I want to know if finalists and rejects statuses are the same. Part of me is still clinging onto false hope. lol!

bob – have you tried going through the past threads? I’ll go through them again when I get off work and see what the goods say. ;

Here’s some more:

*“Trying is the first step to failure.” -Homer Simpson

“If at first you don’t succeed, give up.” -Homer Simpson*

lol. seriously, I find it really odd that A LOT of African-Americans haven’t heard anything yet.

lulu_faye, i live in Guam, which is like… the pacific~asian area… in the pacific ocean area lol is it safe to say i got rejected? =[

and…Homer Simpson’s quotes are humorous, but blatantly wrong to me. lol,.

yea i totally find that odd…so thats why i still have faith that perhaps it comes out in batches of random numbers or something instead of by race…

Hey! I’m African American and haven’t received anything yet! But I talked to my GC who used to be on the committee for Gates and he said they told him they sent the first wave of acceptances this week. I don’t know if he misinterpreted or what. I certainly hope not.

I live in the Central Time Zone anyone received it from here?

I also want to say something looking at the last years blogs.

ACCORDING TO LAST YEARS APPLICANTS, some people got their notifications through mail delivery. The latest i saw was like 5 days past the `11th (when most people had theirs).

GOOD LUCK!
MY HOPE HAS RISEN AGAIN!!

Ok guys, ****. Im writing this in capital letters because i want you to understand i am incredibly furious.
I wrote incredible essays. If you read my past post, my teacher edited and cried twice. She also edited my school’s last year’s four gates scholars and told me my essays were definitely better than theirs.
Im hispanic. Apparently, i didnt get it.
A friend i have in my school, a girl, did all the essays really fast the day before they were due. She sent them to me, asking for help so that i would edit them. I just corrected many of the countless grammatical flaws she had. Besides that, the essays were incredibly crappy. But overly crappy, i just wanted to tell her to not even submit them because there was no way shed win. Obviously, its better than nothing, so i didnt tell her, but the essays were just very plain, short, uninteresting, and seriously, unworthy of anything. I mean, i read a lot of stuff, from scholarship essays to college apps to w.e. This girl’s essays were just outright bad.

She’s a finalist.

What
the
hell

this has made me lose faith in humanity( not really)

but seriously it makes me want to write a god damn good letter and try to have bill/melinda gates read it, telling them to make sure they check how these people check the applications.

I am hispanic. I dont know if its that i dont have a last name like “perez, sanchez,” or a name like “rosita and juancito,” my last name has a russian origin, but that would institute friggin racism and i cant assume that. But god damn it, im more hispanic than 4/5 of the actual hispanics.

I damn well went through more **** than they did

damn you bill gates’ people. One day when i become famous i will let you know so you can give me back my money, i can donate it to your friggin foundation, and i can make sure i find all the people that read hispanic letters, find their addresses, and send a letter to each one of them with a small piece of cat poop.

God damn it dude, d a m n it.

1-the girls essays were very bad
2- i dont think i should even write a letter because it wont do anything (reach any important people at least) and itd just make me more furious
