My D was applying to colleges this time last year. She was attending a small hs with one guidance counselor for grades 7-12. With all of her responsibilities, we created a notebook for our D which we gave to the GC. In this notebook we listed the colleges and deadlines for transcripts, letters of recommendations, scholarship applications, etc. We put a list of the teachers who were doing letters on D’s behalf. We also made address labels for each schools admissions offices so that all she had to do was put the label on the schools envelops.
She told us we were the first to do this and it made her job much easier. Deadlines are so very important not only for admissions but merit awards as well. It never hurts to make anyones job easier especially when it is for your benefit. You might ask your GC if they would like one for you or your student.
