So I was checking the enrollment counts on the ucla schedule pages and all the GE clusters and fiat lux classes have 0 people enrolled so far even though it says enrollment counts update in real time. An error by ucla or no people enrolled so far?? And some ge clusters are listed as closed. Why are they closed when no one has enrolled yet?

it’s usually freshman who sign up for those sort of classes. and freshman don’t sign up yet… so… it could be possible that no sophomore, junior, or senior want to take those classes on first pass anyway.

More likely is that there’s an enrollment restriction in place that prevents non-freshmen from enrolling. Also, they close some classes so that freshmen at later orientations can have a chance to enroll. However, some ‘closed’ classes will change to ‘canceled’. It’s too early to tell which will open and which won’t.

Fiat Lux classes and GE clusters are have enrollment restrictions so only first-year Freshman can enroll in them. The reason some of the GE clusters say closed is that you have to enter a lottery at Orientation to get into one because of their popularity, unlike the regular classes which you just enroll in. After Orientation the restrictions for Fiat Lux classes will be lifted, as I know that in some of mine last year I even had some seniors, but as far as I know only first-years can take clusters under any circumstance.
