In comparison with division one athletes, how much gear do division three athletes get.
My D2 athlete, at a program that is not fully funded, gets almost everything she needs except cleats. The coach did buy them all cleats the first year but had so many complaints and kids buying/needing different ones, either because they didn’t like them or because they didn’t fit, she just makes them get their own. (My daughter was one who complained and bought her own. She has wide feet and prefers men’s cleats to women’s). Coach does still buy them sneakers for workouts.
They get sticks, goggles, uniforms (of course), work out t-shirts and shorts, practice jerseys, sweats, yoga pants, jackets, etc. Last year’s sticks kept breaking and they have all new ones this year. They are required to wear certain outfits for travel, work outs, meals before games, etc.
I did have to buy pre-wrap. The trainers stopped supplying it because the girls were using it for their hair rather than for wrapping their ankles before taping. I can’t think of anything else I’ve had to buy, just cleats and pre-wrap. Oh, and mouth guards. I know the coach has dozens of the cheap ones in case anyone forgets hers, but most of the kids have the $20-30 ones, or even those by a dentist that are about $100.
D3 parent – in season, the team was provided a lot of clothing but had to return most of it at the end of the season --team polos for travel, all weather jackets etc. At the end of the season, they kept their warm up shirts and some uniform items like socks and shorts. Before the season began, there was the option to purchase non-mandatory items, like hoodies etc. Players provided their own cleats.
My D3 athlete received a lot of team clothing to keep, much of it with her name and number on it. Everything for her sport was provided except for shoes and socks.
Oh yes, socks. She has to have white and black. She doesn’t give back anything but her uniform (maybe the stick, but really so many of them broke that I’m not sure she cared if she kept it or not).
My son was a D3 football player. He got everything he needed to play, and lots of other team clothing. He had to return his helmet, shoulder pads and uniform but kept everything else. One year he didn’t like the gloves he got from the team and asked me for a different pair. I also bought him some cold weather tights his freshman year. I also got him a custom mouthpiece which lasted all four years.
My athlete recieves lots and lots of clothing, about 10 changes of clothes for both practice and game days, and three pairs of shoes for the season. Also warmup gear, several pairs of pants and several jackets.
We have a son who’s a D3 swimmer. We have to pay for his team ‘traveling’ outfits, etc. Nothing from the school, except clean towels after practice.
