I hear a lot about how much more difficult it is for women to be admitted to college than men I have always thought that this alleged gap in admissions was the result of the fact that many more women than men apply to the top colleges and universities. However, the common data sets appear to reveal something different. Many top universities have little or no gap between men applying and women applying. Some schools, such as Princeton, even have almost 1000 more male than female applicants.

Could someone please explain to me the reasons for the gender gap in college admissions?
