My S is considering OCU as a voice performance major (maybe MT if he gets accepted to both) but he has heard that they have a high number of gen eds required for all majors. Is this true? How many are required? Can you place out with AP or dual credits? This may be a deal breaker for my S. He is a music 24/7 kinda kid and wants as few gen eds as possible. (That is not my preference as a parent, but I respect his desires!)

You can find the gen ed requirements on their web site by starting here: [Oklahoma City University : Bass School of Music : Degree Programs](http://www.okcu.edu/music/genreq.aspx) My D had several dual credit classes which transferred. She also got credit for the foreign language requirement by taking 3 years of the same language in high school. Because she messed up in high school and did not sign up with the local college, she did not get college credit for English, so she had to take that. She also had to take one semester of science because our HS did not offer it as dual credit. She was able to test out of the computer literacy class there at OCU, and I remember her having to take some religion, wellness, and a psychology class. She had HS credit for more math than was needed and was able to use the surplus to satisfy some required electives.

Disclaimer: she attended 2005-2009, so things could have changed. Please do your own research and don’t rely on my memory. LOL :)
