I like this idea.
For the record, I don’t think it’s a huge deal either and always have my own Snacks from home. Was curious the vibe here - which is clearly “it’s a non-issue!”
My concern or 
more was if this was a scheduling/safety issue or was it just cutting back $. Because I do feel the consumer is already paying more for flights overall - no matter if an hour or 6 - and the services are becoming bare bones.
I was recently on a 5+ hour flight on which they announced, after takeoff, that they had no snacks for economy class. They served drinks, but that felt wrong. That was more likely about poor planning!
I just flew back from Italy on Delta two days ago. After we arrived in the US, we had just over an hour flight home on our connecting flight. By the time the flight attendants were able to come by with drinks once we were in the air (there was no snack), I barely had time to even finish my 8oz drink before tray tables had to be put up and they came around collecting trash. Honestly, it did seem silly that they even bothered. If you know ahead of time that your flight does not include drinks/snacks, which you can easily check with airline, there is no reason you shouldn’t be prepared by bringing your own if you can’t make it thru an hour/90 minutes w/o service.
I would prefer if they didn’t serve drinks on short flights because the cart blocks the aisle and I can’t use the toilet. I think what they should do is to put out few bottles of water at the gallery and we could help ourselves.
I would also prefer that they not put the cart in the aisle for drink service. On Southwest, they take orders, then go to the galley to bring out the drinks (using cup holders that are kind of like muffin baking pans with rows of three), instead of blocking the aisle with the cart. It also seems faster that way. Seems odd that other airlines do not do that.
I flew back from Mexico on United and the flight attendant only allowed one snack (there was a choice of three different ones) on a 4 hour flight. Her excuse was ‘we need to make sure everyone gets one.’ Well, they knew how many people would be on the flight when they loaded the snacks, didn’t they? Couldn’t they have counted the number of passengers and doubled that? I thought that was cheap as it was no more work for the FA to give you 2 snacks and not just 1 cookie.
For the short flights, I think it is a good thing to not roll carts down the aisle. Just get on, sit, get off. The exception should be water and that should always be available.
On a flight in Germany last year, everything on the cart was for sale. They handed everyone a small bottle of water and at some point went around with a basket of chocolates (really really good). I think the flights were under 2 hours. I did ask for and receive a second bottle of water. They did a poor job of picking up the trash and on one flight I had to walk up to another section to throw away my trash. I think domestic US flights do a better job of that.
Funny - my “no snack” flight was also on United out of Mexico.
I don’t mind if they cancel service on short flights, however, they’d better have plenty of snacks and drinks onboard because sometimes those short flights turn into much longer flights when you’re sitting on the tarmac for hours.
What I do mind is when I’m sitting in comfort class and the flight attendants can’t be bothered to do more than one service on a six hour flight, and they’re sitting in the back messing with their iPhones the rest of the time. I just go back and ask for a drink, but it’s annoying to watch first class get constant service while we get only one in all that time.
I’ve concluded that Premium Economy on international giant airplanes is much much nicer than First Class on Delta domestic small plane.
We loved Business/1st on Hawaiian Air. It was the 1st time we were given something to cover our seat and a fully loaded ipad with movies & shows & games, plus nice the whole plane had internet for entire flight.
Even the food was quite good—surprisingly to me, the frittata was quite moist and tasty in the morning. I actually slept for a few hours and felt pretty decent when we landed after our hnl to jfk flight. I was surprised the uber ride to son’s place was >1 hour!
I’ve never had this happen, thankfully, but the thought always drives me to bring some sort of snack onboard with me - usually some pretzels and a protein bar, and my own bottle of water, just in case.
We normally pack snacks but since S put us in business 1st class for all our flights, this trip, we packed no food and just bring empty bottles to fill with water. Hawaiian Air gave us new aluminum water bottles, so I left my old bottle (which I had drunk and refilled with water) on the plane because the Hawaiian one has a wider mouth so easier to refill & clean.
I plan to buy snacks when we reach Scandinavia. The business/1st class attendants do a good job of providing food & beverages. I can’t imaging they’ll allow us to starve.
I usually bring some nuts and bars, but never my own water. Just in case, I often bring a cup of coffee onboard, as you never know if coffee will be good or awful.
I do not, however, bring my own wine, which is why I hold a grudge when the flight attendants choose to only do one service in six hours, and I might not have asked for a glass, not knowing it was going to be their only trip down the aisles. I used to bring my own wine while traveling during Covid, because the airlines took that as an opportunity to cut back. I’d also bring a big bag of food, as it could be impossible to get food at hotels and airports. I don’t miss those days of involuntary weight loss!

Interesting, we did not notice any flight attendence on Lufthansas doing trash pick up on the short flight from Prague to Frankfurt or Frankfurt to Atlanta - they did pick up the full meal tray but all snacks and drinks prior to that on the long haul were left at your seat unless you took them to the trash. I told my husband I thought it might be in their union contract not to do trash duty.
Same with Christmas trip to Canada - I had assumed daily oil prices up/down/up/down
My SIL and her husband are on a month-long trip overseas. H hadn’t heard from her this week, so texted her last night. Come to find out that they were in a vehicle collision on Tuesday which totaled their rental car. Only minor injuries, TG. They have another rental car, but now there’s anxiety about driving; her husband doesn’t even want to get in a car, let alone drive one, and SIL refuses to drive anywhere but at home. They’re doing some real-time rearranging of the remaining two weeks.
Fortunately, they purchased full coverage with only $225 deductible. I’m not sure what other travel insurance they have, but given their history it should be the max coverage possible. On their last trip, SIL he to be pushed out of the way of a car coming at them and she smashed up her face pretty badly. On another trip, she stumbled on cobblestones and broke her wrist.
I do not believe you are permitted to bring your own alcoholic beverages on at least domestic flights. In fact, there have been announcements about that made on some flights I’ve been on.

You cannot bring your own wine onto an airplane to drink during the flight. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations strictly prohibit passengers from consuming any personal alcohol onboard. You are only permitted to drink alcohol that is served and sold to you by the airline’s flight attendants
If I am not sitting in the front and traveling during my meal time, I would always bring my own food even if they were serving food on flight.
Okay, as an airline pilot for almost 30 years, I do know that.
And I also know that for those unfortunate to have to fly during Covid times, if you wanted anything whatsoever, you’d likely have to bring it yourself. Closed stores and restaurants at the airport, zero service onboard the airplanes, even as the only paying passenger aboard a flight. Yes, I did flaunt the rules (the horror) and since the flight attendants didn’t bother to even check on me, I got away with it.
