@thumper thank you for the information on Bradley. D2 flies in there today to visit D1, SIL and GD and goes out next Wednesday. She has TSA precheck.

I can’t say that the wait times are always correct, but you do get a visual. ATL and other large airports are a mess. A lot depends on the time of day, and how many lines are actually opened.

Just for fun, Denver had a power outage on Wed at 10 am that shut down everything for an hour. TSA had to shut down because the belts couldn’t move the carry on luggage thru the xray machines.

Anyone know how things look in Phoenix? We fly back from there on March 30.
S is currently en route here from Chicago. He said TSA at O’Hare was a breeze. He is pre check.

Mr. B just came back from SFO. Flew Alaska and said the terminal it flies from was OK. Usually the TSA agents twiddle their thumbs waiting for someone to come their way, but this time there were fewer of them, and the precheck wait was 10 minutes at 5 pm yesterday (compared to almost zero a month ago). When I picked him up at SeaTac around 9 pm, the airport was a zoo. Not sure how long the TSA wait was, but both levels were solidly packed with cars dropping off and picking up people.

Parking was an issue at Bradley. It’s college spring breaks and a lot of the long term parking was full…so we didn’t get our preferred really cheap lot. And finding a space was a bit of a challenge.

SFO TSA agents are contractors. When DH was flying from there during the last shutdown they announced that they are still paid by their contracting company.

I still say the airlines could help the TSA lines by allowing (requiring?) a free checked bag and TSA could have an express lane for those with only a small carryon with electronics. I see the long lines at TSA and notice the tons of luggage all the people have. 3 hours? I’d have to have someone save my place while I took a bathroom break every hour.

D2 has TSA pre and got through San Diego security at 8pm last night in 5 minutes. She did say the regular security line was quite long.

Man, what is going on in Nashville? I just tried to change my rental car and extend another day, and the Hertz site said they were sold out. Checked Costco, all cars sold out. Checked Expedia, and I could get a non-refundable small car for about $1600, refundable for $2K. Right now I’m paying $228 for an SUV. So much for extending another day!
Wondering if there is a big event in Nashville, or if everyone and their mother has changed their flights out of Atlanta to Nashville?
I just watched that video from the LaGuardia accident. Those pilots had no chance, no option to do differently. At the point they likely saw the fire truck, it was too late to do anything. Usually there is some blame put on pilots for an accident like this (even if it’s ATC’s fault), and there are a number of times I’ve had to go around because of ATC’s error. As a pilot, you always look to make sure the landing runway is clear and there is nobody creeping their way onto the runway, but the video shows that fire truck coming from a distance and racing towards that runway fast, no hesitation to look and make sure an aircraft was landing or taking off, just right onto the runway quickly. I’m sure they were in a hurry to get to the other emergency aircraft, but there is no way that it’s procedure to cross an active runway with such speed and not confirming that no aircraft are approaching. I usually don’t jump to conclusions, but wow.

I dunno. Was 3 mins through security today at 2p.
Ubers were 3x the norm Thursday night tho. I shuttled to a hotel and ubered home from it for $40 vs well over $100 - normally it’s $50-$60.
So something is going on - with the airport. Cant speak for hertz. What if you Simply didn’t return it and brought it back a day later ? Or picked up another off site, dropped this and used the other the next day or the entire team. For example, you can rent in Franklin via Avis or Enterprise. Likely others closer too and just get there.

I hadn’t heard there were security issues at BNA, but I fly into there often, never had a problem getting a car.
No issues but the airport is fleecing people - on uber and parking. Try off site.
Actually, I’m just sticking with my cheap $228 car rental that I booked months ago. No uber, no parking required. BNA is the easiest airport ever to rent a car. Usually.
