General Consensus of Vanderbilt/Wash U? on the rise? under/overrated?

I was just wondering what the general consensus of vanderbilt/wash u st louis. they tend to receive a lot of hate/bashing on this site. I was wondering what you guys think of them

I’ve never seen any hate or bashing of either of those schools. I think they’re both excellent, reputable schools with great academics, and anyone would be lucky to go there.

I’ve seen some bashing on Wash U, but not much. Some say it’s overrrated.

I think both schools are on the rise.

Vanderbilt > WashU in my opinion :)

WashU should be ranked around Vandy, not among Dartmouth, NU, Hopkins, or Cornell

I say washu is perhaps the MOST overrated university out there. It is a great school tho

If you absolutely have to go down South, there’s Duke.

Likewise, WUSTL is selective enough that most who are admitted are admitted to more reputable and higher quality institutions, such as Hopkins and Cornell.

The difference between Vandy and WashU is less in academics and more in culture. It takes a keen eye to discern that difference. While WashU has gained a great deal in reputation the last 15 years or so, Vandy still is nationally recognized as a school of amazing academics.

The real question people should be asking is what the new world order will be asking of college graduates? And that should have a greater impact on their selection, perhaps.

WashU is not “south.” St Louis is a solidly Midwestern city.

I always wonder, what do Wash U grads who don’t go to med school and become doctors do with their lives? I’m not bashing the school in any way but am truly curious because I’ve never heard of anyone from WashU working in the banks, nonprofit agencies, consulting companies, talent agencies, etc. that a lot of my friends at similarly ranked schools work at. Do most of them go to law school?

It’s alumni network is extremely unimpressive to say the least for a school of its stature (top 15 USNWR)

Nearly everyone of note went to graduate school or did their professional schooling there and not their undergraduate studies.

They do the same things any other graduate of a top 20 college does. Duh.

lol Pizzagirl is awesome.
