General Engineering at UIUC

My daughter got admission here. Anyone has taken GE please share your thoughts and outcome of jobs. Thanks

What is her career goal?

http://www.ise.illinois.edu/undergraduate-programs/general-engineering-degree has some information. Career directions appear to be mainly those where engineering knowledge is useful, but in-depth knowledge of an engineering specialty is less needed. An example would be patent law (which obviously also requires law school afterward).

In other threads, you mention UCI and CPSLO. Resident of CA or IL?

My husband got his degree in General Engineering from UIUC, but that was 30 yrs ago. He went on for his MBA and worked as a consultant before taking a position in strategic planning. He retired in his 40s.

I know his story is out of the ordinary. He would probably say his GE degree, with great grades his last 2 yrs, got him into his MBA program without work experience…though I’m not sure if that would be possible now. Good luck with your daughter’s decision.
