General Questions about University Life

I have some questions about university life. I’ve experience community college life, but after going to orientation, I find that there seems to be a big difference between universities and community college in the way students act.

Do college guys like a girl who is funny? Who likes to crack jokes here and there? I like to laugh and make others laugh, but I’m thinking I might need to go back to being stone cold serious.

How do you stay safe on a huge college campus? I know to stay with the crowds and not to get too many night classes. The answer is probably to follow one’s instints and use common sense, but I have a somewhat fear of being raped.

Thank you.

Of course we like funny girls! Personally, its a much larger bonus factor that a lot of physical characteristics… i’d not “flirt” with a “stone cold” girl regardless of how physically attractive they are.

Not to sound mean, but I don’t have patience for questions like your first one asked, so I’ll leave someone else to answer that.

As for your second question, I think it’s goes beyond common sense. Like you should have common sense (crowds, not walking around at night alone, etc), but a lot of it it is being aware. You could all the common sense, but if you’re not aware of you’re surroundings your screwed. Just be attentive, make sure you’re constantly looking what’s behind you, listen to sounds, etc. Don’t be on your phone, don’t listen to your ipod, etc. Make sure you are alert, because if you’re not you might as well expect the worst.

@Stratusfaction: I have heard that it may be a good idea to be on your phone walking home alone from a late class or something. That way, if someone suddenly attacks you or something, the person on the other end will know that something’s wrong. Of course, stay alert while you’re on the phone.

@Aspire007 For the first question i would say yes who wants to talk to a girl thats serious all the time and have no sense of humor, for the second question invest in some pepper spray or a rape whistle and learn how to punch ppl in the nuts…:o

I think almost everyone has at least a little fear of being raped…as for the first part, I love it when girls joke…I find girls that are always serious to be quite dull. Just don’t TRY to always be funny…it gets old when it is obvious.

If you have common sense and have avoided being sexually assaulted until now, you should probably be fine.
The don’ts are all obvious:
-don’t accept drinks from strangers (but you can even do this if you’re with a group of trustworthy friends that can help you back to your dorm if you get roofied).
-don’t walk around at night, especially in shady areas, without someone with you or something like pepper spray.

Seriously, it’s all common sense. Also, college guys are the same as guys who aren’t in college.

If you act serious and stone cold, you can walk around at night and guys will carry pepper spray around you!

I walk around at night occasionally. I know it’s not the best idea, but sometimes you’re drunk and get separated and you need to get home. I never worry about it though which I know is weird. I always feel super calm when walking home in the dark. It’s often in a well-lit urban-ish area though so I don’t worry about that at all. It’s really just like the neighborhoods you’d have to worry about.

I don’t know if this is true anywhere else, but my school has a fleet of golf carts that will pick you up anywhere on campus and drop you off anywhere else on campus (only at night), including at the far edge of campus directly across the street from a lot of the off campus apartments. There are also five different bus routes that go all around campus and to select locations off campus (including several stops near off-campus apartment complexes). So there’s really not much need to worry about taking too many night classes here. I don’t know whether or not this is true for other schools, though.

1) Different guys like different things. Changing your personality to make guys more attracted to you is a very bad idea!

2) You’re much more likely to get date raped than random-stranger-outside raped, so the best advice I have is to not drink things people hand to you and not to leave your drink sitting somewhere if you go to the washroom.

Chandi has some great advice. If your university has that, definitely take advantage of it.
