I was thinking of bringing a couple of bags of See’s wrapped chocolate hearts, one with milk, one dark. About 60 candies altogether.
I never considered a gift for the flight attendants. But… when we rented a houseboat with friends on Canal Du Midi in France, we had little chocolate treats that we gave to the lock keepers - they seemed to really appreciate that !
My flight attendant friend says…please don’t bring gifts. They have limited luggage space and really don’t need gifts to schlep anyplace.
Re: Starbucks…they are almost everywhere. But you have no way to know if the flight attendant would even use them.
We didn’t bring gifts for flight attendants…
Remember that on long flights @Marilyn there are usually two full crews…so if you do decide to bring a gifts, bring doubles, or quadruples as different crew members will be serving you at different times.
I bring enough chocolates for the crew to be able to share. Usually 12-16 chocolates in a box; we do business class long haul and the most people working that cabin are 10-12 total. It isn’t a gift to have to hold onto, it is an edible treat as a little “I see you as people and appreciate your service”.
Since we’re arriving on the 13th, I thought it would be fun to recognize Valentines Day. I admit I was tempted to get these:
Or these (I’ve read that lip balms are a popular thing):
While I think gifts for the flight attendants is a thoughtful idea, it also strikes me as unnecessary. Not that they might not enjoy fine chocolates, but if you want them to feel “seen”, be polite.
I think she is just talking about a bag of chocolate hearts to share among the crew - just a gesture of thanks that doesn’t take any room for any individual.
@Marilyn I think totally not necessary but if it’s important to you, you can always bring a bag and if you board and don’t feel for whatever reason comfortable giving it - you and your H can enjoy it yourself!
@Jolynne_Smyth - I know I am late to the party, but I thought I’d chime in.
We traveled a fair amount last year - three cruises, a week in Florida, a week in northern ireland, ten days on the west coast hitting three national parks, 2 weeks in Spain/Portugal where one week was the cruise and ten days in Texas over the holidays with the kids. We had a few other short driving trips (long weekend trips) as well.
I estimate that we spent under 25K for these trips. Almost all trips included flights. We don’t book suites on cruises but had balcony/oceanview cabins on all of them. Stay in hilton hotels for the most part but we did end up booking a few airbnbs and other hotels when we were outside the US.
We love to travel and I’d expect that we’d do something similar to this in the next few years.
Hope that helps!
Thank you! I really appreciate hearing all the different varieties of travel! Friday H and I leave for four days in St. Pete - I’m curious whether we’ll like it (both the destination and whole travel thing overall!).
Enjoy! I love that area and if the weather cooperates, you can see some amazing sunsets!
Nice! It seems a good time to seek some warmer weather.
I’m loving being in the southern hemisphere during their summer. I would love to go someplace else next January. Have been to South Africa.
Any other good suggestions??
We are flying Delta one suites and I bought, in advance, as many others do, Starbucks gift cards to give to the flight attendants in our section. I gave them to the international flight attendants on the way out, but I accidentally left the rest of the Starbucks gift cards in my checked luggage so I can’t give them to the flight attendant on the return international leg. Oops. It’s a pretty common thing that many people do to thank the flight attendants for their help. To be totally honest, I’ve not done it when we flew premium select, but I would have if I had thought about it. We are doing it in first class. It’s a long flight and they take good care of you. But as I said, I forgot and left them in my checked luggage so these flight attendants are gonna get just a verbal thank you.
I would not have paid for these seats because the price is ridiculous but I sure am happy to use Miles and upgrades. That was well worth it. ![]()
Hoping no one is cruising Anthem of the Seas out of Sydney! The cruise got in 10 hours late yesterday due to technical issues then completely cancelled the next 10 day cruise to New Zealand. First issue was the 4000+ passengers disembarking, many if not most of whom would miss their flights home. Second issue is dealing with the 4000+ passengers on the cancelled cruise! Skipping a port is one thing - but the entire cruise!?
I was only paying attention because the ship is supposed to be in port on one of our days in Sydney and I was bemoaning how it would dominate pictures.
We were there when the ship arrived…late. We were on a ferry that had to wait while the cruise ship was getting tied up.
Fortunately, we are home. Our cruise ended a week or more ago. Those huge cruise ships block the view of the Opera House for many people. (Side issue, but just a comment).
I think this is that ship:
What are the thoughts out there about travel to Poland? Considering a river cruise that ends in Prague that has an optional extension to Warsaw and Krakow, 5 nights. There is of course a war in a country on Poland’s eastern border.
The chance to visit Poland (my wife’s grandparents emigrated from there) is appealing, as is the cost (a 5-night fully escorted tour, $1600 pp). Reports say Poland is safe for tourism, presumably as long as you stay away from the eastern border, but we have reservations.
What say the CC community?
A seventy-something friend and I spent the afternoon planning our late April trip on Amtrak. A week or so ago we got a $250 Amtrak deal, 10 stops within 30 days. Half price.
We will start by flying from NY to San Diego (family friend there) to LA (many cousins) to Oakland (college friend and family) and Portland (niece and family). Then to Glacier National Park and Fargo. Probably fly home from there.
I am excited! I have hardly traveled at all for several years.
Amtrak can be a very relaxing way to travel! I hope you have a FABULOUS time! We have enjoyed our rides on Amtrak!
