General SAT Advice for Math?

Math has never been my best subject. I’ve struggled my way through getting A’s in all of my math classes, with immense difficulty. I took my PSAT four months ago and got a 540 in math, compared to my 710 in CR and 790 in Writing it wasn’t great (these are the converted scores). Albeit, I wasn’t prepared for the test, and so on, I recently took a online practice test on Sparknotes. I got a 490 in Math, I was really surprised and scared. My other scores were a 790 in Writing and a 630 in CR. Obviously, I’m pretty freaked out and tense about the SAT’s. I want to get a good score my first time. I have to get above a 1910 for a guaranteed Medical program. Any advice on how to improve math? I have the BB.

What guaranteed medical program only requires a 1910?

Is it in Pakistan?

Learn how to work all the problems and fast.
Learn how to check all your answers fast.
Use the calculator and write out your work whenever you can.

That’s my advice, from a guy who’s only missed one math problem on the PSAT and 2 SAT’s :p

I know what you mean. For me writing [the MC portion] is kind of difficult. I’m decent@ math. Basically I would go through the strategies in your prep books. Also look through the ‘concepts you should know’ lists in the BB at the start at all the math chapters. Definitely do all the practice questions in the math chapters as well.

Any tips on the writing multiple choice. It seems like you have basically mastered that section!

I want to get into a guaranteed medical program as well :)

Intangiblegator, Lol no it’s not in Pakistan. I live in the U.S It’s a New Jersey/Virginia/Florida and from what I know Maryland State sponsored Guaranteed Medical program. It’s at a couple of diff. universites in(around 1 or 2 per state but the requirements are the same). Yeah 1910 is the SAT requirement, low I know, I expected a 2200 or something.

Strosfan, Yeah I’m def. working on the speed thing. Geometry is killer though, I absolutely abhor it!

manu101 For writing, the BB really helps but I haven’t really done anything to get better at it. I can tell you that reading online at the Discover Magazine website helps overall in all the sections that aren’t math-related. And yeah, I’m definitely shooting for guaranteed med. so the pressure is doubled to get a great SAT score.
