Geography Program

Does anyone know about the FSU Geography program?
I know it’s really good, but is it easy to get into?

The website is a good place to start. Try: [fsu.edu | FSU Geography Department Overview](http://www.coss.fsu.edu/geography/About_Us/about_geo.html)

Here are some initial contacts: [fsu.edu | FSU Geography Important Contacts](http://www.coss.fsu.edu/geography/About_Us/contacts.html)

If you’re at UNF in Jax I’d suggest making the drive over to visit the department after you make an appointment.

I’ll ask and see if I might find out additional information.

thanks!

i read this though:
[Departures, hiring freeze crimp FSU geography department | tallahassee.com | Tallahassee Democrat](http://tallahassee.com/article/200990203004)

apparently the geography department was hardest hit by the budget problems.

will that effect my admission to the program?

It is impossible to tell from afar. The best thing to do is to discuss this with admissions and faculty.

The FSU administration has said they will not allow quality to be affected by budget restrictions. The numbers of students may be reduced, but they will work to keep the quality high. One impact from budget cutbacks has already been a large increase in the quality of freshman admissions. The numbers of freshmen overall were reduced and consequently the quality in FTIC statistics for example, due to competition for open slots, greatly increased. Combine this with more in-state retention of good students due to fewer wanting to go out of state because of the expense and you have a synergistic effect.

yes. so basically higher quality students: but less of them accepted overall.
that’s what i’m worried about. i really wanna go to FSU, but since they are admitting less transfers I am worried about my chances. i don’t have bad grades, but they aren’t astounding. i am not a slacker by any means.

i know this isn’t too popular of a major though.

I think you should try nonetheless. One never knows what may happen. ;)

Good luck!
