@carolinamom2boys - that doesn’t surprise me; I know some comments I read about Carrie Fisher last night were horrible. And she’s not even gay. There’s a whole segment of society that sees nothing good in the entertainment industry, and will use every opportunity to bash people in it, regardless of their beliefs, gender identity, etc.
He will be missed to those of us who grew up dancing to his music in the 80’s. He was very talented and misunderstood. May he find peace.
I haven’t seen any negative comments and wasn’t sure why I would be (had never heard of him doing anything controversial but admittedly I wasn’t a devout fan). It breaks my heart when I remember that there are still anti-LGBTQ+ people out there 
We went to see La La Land tonight. There’s one scene in the movie where Mia (Emma Stone), who is an aspiring actress, calls Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), an aspiring jazz musician who does cliche gigs, George Michael. You could sort of hear a collective sigh in the movie theater.
I have always loved him and was fortunate enough to see him perform live twice. His voice was so incredibly beautiful, even more so in live performance. Very sad about this one. 2017 cannot come soon enough.
So sad. I think my son is more heartbroken over this – for a number of reasons – than he was over anyone else this year, except Prince. For me, it was David Bowie.
@romanigypsyeyes, he was arrested several times for incidents involving drug possession and public lewdness that were considered scandals at the time. That may be what people are being nasty about on social media. A lot of it is probably just bigotry about his sexual orientation though, regardless of these other incidents.

I thought the nastiness was about his supposedly becoming an overweight recluse.
In the 90s I took an exercise class with an instructor who loved George Michael. She played his songs all the time, but when I mentioned some of his songs with Wham she had never heard of Wham.
He was a genuinely soulful singer and a brave person in a dark time for gender non-conformity. His music isn’t my bag, but I always had a soft spot for him. My wife was a huge fan as a young girl (even sent him fan mail from across the globe), and cites him as one of her early motivations to master English.

It has been reported, and a picture posted on TMZ showing he had gained a huge amount of weight, I would have to guess from the pictures about 100 lbs. It also stated close sources are saying cause of death was heart failure. Sorry, I can’t post a link from the device I am on. Very sad.
