It’s intended for college students…
Why do you keep calling it your back-up plan?

@rushandcrush I only mentioned that this was my backup plan once. But I said this was my backup because this wasn’t my first choice in summer program and I didn’t think it was extremely selective.

Nope. There are two divisions in the program, one for college students and one for high school students. It’s not just for college students.

I just got in! They said someone declined, and so I got their place :)

Congrats!

In case anyone was wondering…
Rejection Letter:
Dear Applicant,

Thank you so very much for taking time to apply to the George Washington Carver (GWC) Summer Internship Program at Iowa State University (ISU). Please accept our apology in our delay in notifying you about the selections. We received an overwhelming number of qualified applicants this year, and were unable to offer you a position in our program. The mentors and review committee spent a tremendous amount of time making selections and wanted to extend the invitation to more interns but we did not have the resources to invite more students. I want to personally commend you on seeking out research opportunities like this program that can expand your scientific and practical experience. I would encourage you to consider applying to the George Washington Carver Program next year and to other opportunities that Iowa State University has to offer, including the Ag-Discovery Program ([USDA - APHIS- Civil Rights Enforcement and Compliance](<a href=“USDA APHIS | Home Landing Page”>http://www.aphis.usda.gov/agdiscovery/index.shtml)).

Good luck with your future endeavors!

Sincerely,

Jovaughn Barnard
Program Coordinator
