Yay! Finally got into the portal. Accepted. $25K Presidential Scholarship. See you all at admitted student’s day.
Did anyone’s scholarship require a minimum GPA to renew every year? We didnt see any info on that. Also, has anyone had a chance to visit the Mt. Vernon campus? We’ve only been to the main campus and was wondering what the commute was like between the campuses.
I couldn’t find anything on a quick glance across the internet, but this may interest you:Policy - Satisfactory Academic Progress | Office of Student Financial Assistance | Enrollment and the Student Experience | The George Washington University
That seems to be for financial aid, and not merit. I’ll have to add that to my list of questions. Thanks.
The Mt. Vernon campus is not far…maybe 3 miles away. We visited during the summer an there was no traffic - took 10 minutes by shuttle bus. I imagine it can take longer at times with traffic. It’s very calm and nice. Definitely feels a little isolated compared to the urban main campus…doesn’t feel walkable in the same way, but it’s really not far away. They told us most freshmen live there and all freshmen take a class there.
Thanks. I’ll have to add that to our stops on our visit and list of questions.
I think it’s a 3.2 for merit award renewal each year.
Mt. Vernon is “far” in DC terms…::but not bad. And the shuttle(s) do their job in getting the kids back and forth (and can be used as opportunity to meet people).
Living in Mt. Vernon is typically wanted by no one, but….its almost like a rite of passage and many, many freshman will be living there no matter what they list for their housing preferences.
My S lived there in West Hall his first year and it works out well; it’s contained which promotes interaction.
And, the campus is lovely with green spaces.
Perhaps, but most merit aid is tied to the financial aid packages alongside need based aid, and many scholarships require you to meet at a bare minimum “Satisfactory academic progress” to renew these scholarships.
I didn’t get any GPA on my letter, I don’t believe, but I’ll take a look again.
Are you all able to sign onto GWeb portal for the Cost of Attendance information? Ours seems to be blocked.
Anyone do the admitted students day? We went today. We really liked the school, the programs, the students, the housing. The rankings dont do it justice. It’s turning out to be a real contender for us.
Hello everybody!
We went to an admitted students presentation today in San Francisco and the Admissions person said that because GW is confident in their financial aid packages provided via the CSS profile submission, they aren’t extending the May 1 deadline to commit. We checked the portal and didn’t see any information about financial aid packages or total cost of attendance. We will schedule a meeting with financial aid, but wondering if anyone here has received any information or met with financial aid about this yet. Thanks!
My son got a phone call from GWU (he was accepted as well) last week and the person went over the financial aid with him on the phone. I was a little annoyed they didn’t include me in the conversation, but he’s 18, so…
When my son was in college at another college, the financial aid person did the same thing.
Hi–We’re going in a couple of weeks. Any chance you have the schedule for the day?
I’m guessing they will probably send one but we’re trying to work out some other things while we’re there so hoping to get an idea of what they have planned.
We have not received any financial aid information from GWU
Download Inside GWU app. The morning schedule is pretty fixed, but you can customize the afteroon schedule. Also, there was plenty of visitors parking under the University Student Center when we went.
My daughter got an e-mail. But there was some kind of link in the application portal too where she set up a GW ID. She says she’s going to show me tomorrow. The FASFA hasnt been received yet though. I asked the school, and they said they are expecting information in mid-April.

What excites you most about the housing? Your student may wind up on the Vern so you need to be open minded. Each year housing has been handled quite differently and this year has not gone smoothly. Surely you can get excited about something more than housing. Fit, major and affordability were my student’s drivers.
Can anyone confirm the decision deadline is still May 1st? I can’t seem to find it anywhere on their website.
