Second that has anyone called about the extended wait list ?
@Jacob4815162342 That’s true now that I think about it. The natural thing to do is to type georgetown extended waitlist into google to try to find as much info as possible.
Also, I called the admissions office but the person on the phone (probably just a work-study student) did not have any info about the extended waitlist.
Any chance anyone could call back and ask to speak with a counselor? I’m out of the country
The major point of information is that they accepted 190/2100 trying to yield 150 students to begin with (they’re estimating a yield percentage of 78.95%). Seeing as they only used a few applicants off the wait list, I’m wondering why they even implemented the extended wait list again this year (because they probably got pretty close to that target yield of 79%)… At this point in time, which accepted students are going to flake out? It seems like there would be very little reason for further attrition right now, but if someone could prove otherwise, I’d love to hear it, haha.
The yield for freshman is only around 48%, with MSB the highest and the college the lowest. Even though yield for transfers is higher, it could in no way be close to 79%. If we estimate yield for transfers from peer schools, we can look at Cornell CAS (https://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000156.pdf). Cornell CAS transfer has yield rate of 60% but Georgetown should be lower because Cornell has guaranteed transfers and the freshman yield at Cornell is also slightly higher at 53%.
i looked at past threads (2013) and its not looking very optimistic for MSB students
.
@lisamonroe1 check what you’re looking at. I think you’re looking at freshman extended wait list chatter. The transfer extended wait list was only implemented last year in order for GT to get as close to 6,850 as possible.
@Transfersquared I’m liking those numbers and logic. However, each time I give myself a mental pat on the back, I feel as if I’m setting myself up for disappointment. The pains of trying to be pragmatic…
re#404:
" Cornell CAS transfer has yield rate of 60% but Georgetown should be lower because Cornell has guaranteed transfers…"
Nearly all Guaranteed Transfers at Cornell are to its “Contract Colleges”.
A few years ago someone on CC reported knowing somebody who had a Guaranteed transfer to CAS. The was the only case I’ve ever even heard or read about. Written descriptions of GT program in the alumni rag specifically referenced the contract colleges. For all practical purposes, for analysis purposes you should best assume that Cornell CAS issues zero Guranteed transfers.
There definitely seems to be more realistic potential to be accepted off this extended waitlist than there is potential to be accepted off most waitlists. So that’s something.
i feel as though the university wouldn’t have created an extended waitlist if they knew they would not be able to use it yk? and i also think it would be quite a horrible waste of time, for both us and them, if they kept us on waitlist the entire summer to then end up denying everyone on the list. They must know what they are doing but they should send us more information for all of us who have decided to stay on there until august. and on the Facebook transfer group there are only about 70 people so even if not everyone accepted has a Facebook or is on the group, i am assuming there should be some spots open that the university is still trying to decide how to deal with.
According to the article citing the 25 students on the fall 2014 transfer extended waitlist, all of those 25 students were guaranteed offers if they waited it out, yes? Amstar in the link above was MSB extended waitlist (if you go back a page or so in the thread) and got rejected in early August… I’m confused? Is it just me or are things seeming more and more contradictory when compared to the positive tone of the article?
Yea. I feel the same. KingofSweden was waitlisted for college and also got rejected. And I believe that they accepted their places on the extended waitlist.

if you go back to the article tho, 25 students were put on the extended waitlist last year but only 12 actually enrolled… so the question is, did the other 13 deny being on the extended waitlist or were they denied by GU?
@marylu17 from the sound of the article, all 25 of those students we’re guaranteed admission if they waited until August 15th, 2014. Yet, the thread I linked to obviously tells a different story. So utterly confused by what has been said by Georgetown and what has actually happened according to CC posts.
@Jacob4815162342 the article states “If you’re willing to stay on the wait list and would be willing to accept enrollment on the first day of registration, we will give you a place if there’s space, and if there’s not, we will guarantee you admission in January”. August 15th is well before the first day of registration, which makes me think that there is possibly another round after the extended wait list.
That’s what I was missing. I assumed August 15th was registration day. It makes sense now.
So it sounds now like those 25 students were the LAST of the LAST on the extended wait list. It seemed much more hopeful when I thought that the extended wait list was only 25 people…
Any transfers in the past have any input on how it was like adjusting to the social scene?
