@kbn2015 my financial info came in a seperate letter than my decision, although the same info was with my decision letter also. Very generous.
got accepted to georgetown college!
Can anyone tell me how to find the mystatus portal that was referenced? I’d like to see if it includes any financial aid info. Thanks!
@mothtotheflame Also Ohio (Columbus) and also admitted to SFS! So excited!!! Just out of curiousity, where in Ohio are you from?
I was rejected, which was a little disappointing as it was my first choice, but I’m from central NC and I heard yesterday. Good luck/congratulations to all y’all!
Is there anyone from Virginia who got the decision letter?
Hey! I’m from Lakewood which is right next to Cleveland. Both of my parents went to Ohio State and my older brother goes there so this is just crazy.
ACCEPTED TO THE COLLEGE FROM PA!! I’m so excited, Gtown is definitely in my top 3 if not my first choice!!
Here’s my stats if people wanna know:
4.3 out of max 4.6 GPA
1490/1600 old SAT
5 APs, all 5s
3 sat subject tests all 730+
NMF
Lots of ECs related to singing/theatre & Mandarin Chinese
Leader of 3 clubs and captain of track team
Upper middle class white male from private school near Philly, no hooks
Accepted to SFS from Georgia! I’m not sure if I will go, however, because I don’t think Georgetown is really the best place for me based upon what I’ve heard about the elitism, extreme competitiveness with fellow students, and stress culture.
Stats: (also normally wouldn’t post this but I want to give others hope and show it’s not all about scores!)
4.3 GPA
1310 super score on new SAT (1290 and 1280 alone)
27 on ACT (but a 24 on sciences section)
6 APs (two 5s, one 4, one 2, and one 1 plus a test I have not taken yet)
IB (only test I’ve taken so far got a 5)
730 on World History but a 690 US Hist and 630 on Bio SS
Almost all ECs are focused on Arabic and Arab social justice issues, very heavily involved in those. They all are focused on teaching others about Arab culture, Arabic, and diminishing stereotypes about the region. Had three very time-consuming volunteer positions (including one associated with a State Department study abroad program) and started two clubs/organizations (Arab Cultural Society and Model Arab League team).
Also had two Georgetown alum read over my essays and they edited them and thought they were strong.
Hooks: Had a recommendation from a Foreign Service Officer whom I’ve met multiple times through different ECs that I do, attend a Title I school
Overall, my point is that scores aren’t everything so don’t get into that mindset! I do not have any outstanding test scores, but Gtown took into consideration my community involvement and passion for Arabic and the Middle East. Don’t let someone tell you that you aren’t good enough for a school!
@student1818 Make room for people who want to go on the waitlist.
@LittleLionDude My D also got into JHU (Intl Studies) and GU (SFS). Do you have a preference? What factors are you considering?
I just had my brother check our mailbox, and my letter still hasn’t arrived. I am starting to panic because I live in NY; most people in NY have gotten something by now. What can I do to make sure the letter is on its way? ~Send help~
My DD got in and she is over the moon excited. It is her first choice. But we didn’t get the financial aid award letter yet so don’t want to get too excited in case it wouldn’t work financially. Looks like some people got the financial aid letter already so hoping it comes in the next couple of days or that we can log on soon to check it out.
@student1818 I hope you will consider giving Georgetown a chance. Sounds like you would truly be an asset to the community there. We just got back from accepted students weekend for EA students (my daughter was accepted EA) and I felt much better about the school as it relates to inclusiveness, whether it be based on religion, ethnic background, sexual orientation, etc. The mindset was right for what you are passionate about…“teaching others about Arab culture, Arabic, and diminishing stereotypes about the region.”. They accepted you because they admire what you are doing and are hoping you will come! Good luck!
Red lights to GW…I have better options ,but still feels bad…
The same thing is happening with me. I
@collegemomjam Thank you for your words of encouragement! I am definitely considering it and I’m going to go to the GAAP program in April, I just am wary about it based on what I’ve heard from others. I had a friend who went to the EA GAAP program and she had the opposite experience as your daughter did.
@Melissazaki Good to know this is happening to someone else, too. I assume gtown wouldn’t just not send a letter to some people. Hopefully they are just delayed.
But I’m starting to worry and get very stressed… should I go talk to my post office?
i wouldn’t worry if you haven’t gotten a letter yet – i applied EA, was supposed to hear back by dec. 15 (a thursday) and got my letter saturday night (my mail comes late in the day). wait until wednesday or thursday at least before you start to worry about the letter getting lost/not being sent! it always comes later than you think/later than you want it to, unfortunately
@livingonaprayer Thank you so much, that makes me feel a lot better
