Georgetown EA

I applied EA to Georgetown, and I got a letter saying I have been deffered. I have a feeling I have painted myself into a corner with these college apps, it seems the only schools I like are a little out of my reach. I would like to know what you think my chances are to be admitted in April.

SATS- 1290 650V 640M
SATIIs- 620 Math, 720 Writing, 640 Lit
(I do not test well…)

I have a 3.6+ unweighted GPA at the best school in Washington
I have taken tons of honors classes, 5 AP classes, and I have attended over three summer schools
I have lived overseas, on the East coast, and on the West coast

Gymnastics for over 12 years (private)
High School gymnastics, varsity 4 years, team captain 2 years, MVP 2 years, state competitor every year
Track-hurdles, state competitor, team captain
I run a landscaping business on the island where I live
I am a secretary at a real estate office
I tutor, and do volunteer work at my mom’s classroom

I have worked my ass off, and GT is my number one and remains so. Here is a list of the schools I have applied to:

Georgetown EA
Harvard
Columbia

Wellesley
Boston College
American
Wheaton

debating the Naval Academy…

any advice would be great

you probably wont get into Georgetown, Harvard, or Columbia. You will get into American though

Based on stats, I see to many reaches, however if they take into consideration your gymnastics, which I think is your hook, you might have a chance at some of them. If you didn’t have a chance I think Georgetown would have rejected you. How come you don’t apply to Mount Holyoke, that could/would be a match.

some more suggestions would be great…

Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Smith, Connecticut College, Lafayette, Lehigh, Hamilton.

Might want to take a good look at Holy Cross -academics are better than Boston College or American and Holy Cross likes to recruit good student athletes from the west coast.

par 72,

why is it your opinion that holy cross is a perfect match and/or great fit for everyone seeking advice on this board

I’d say those first three are all reaches… the others look pretty good though there’s no way to know for sure

You may want to head over to the Georgetown University CC forum. We have the whole batch of deferees and acceptees over there.

I too am a fellow Georgetown deferee, and keeping the candle burning for GU in the Spring. However, moving on is probably the key…

I had a 1320 SAT, 10/724 ranking, what my counselor said was the most rigorous courseload available, incredible teacher recs, a somewhat flaky essay #1, and an excellent (by all account) essay #2. I had a 780-740-700 SAT II trio.

My hook? International Politics. (If you applied to the SFS, that’s a real killer. Probably why I got deferred). I have great participation in the LAWAC (LA World Affairs Council) and such.

I know the feeling of being deferred, but I suggest you look elsewhere as well. Part of this whole college journey is to seek where you want and holding onto your dreams, while at the same time, if you fall, making sure there’s a cushion below you. (Not making much sense here, but)… don’t let a letdown in April discourage you, for I know you’ll probably get into some great universities…

Georgetown EA - Deferees have a 15% chance, so… don’t hold your breath, like I’ve said. LOL, I should be telling myself the same thing, but I still keep the candle burning.

Harvard - Eeek. Worse chance than Georgetown deferred. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s like hoping you win the lottery.

Columbia - See Harvard.

Wellesley - Don’t know much about Wellesley.
Boston College - Don’t know much about BC.
American - Probably in.
Wheaton - I have … like, 0 clue about this one.

yea-

harvard accepts the common app, so basically why not. my interest is also international politics/economics, but i did not choose to apply to SFS. apparentely that’s even harder to get into.
my sister goes to columbia, and ive been in touch with a couple people there…wheaton…well…its a safety. i think what hurts me the most are my stats. i have awesome recs and awesome essays. i have just never done well at the whole multiple choice thing.

Britty- posts your stats on the Stats/Decisions thread in the Georgetown forum please. Thanks!
