<p>How is GU for social life for gays and are there many TAs?</p>
<p>There’s some good gay clubs and lots of gay support for example with the new lgbtq resource center and the gu pride student group on campus. despite the hate crimes in recent years, acceptance and support of gays is generally good imo.</p>
<p>I’m not gay myself so I don’t have experience with acceptance/discrimination like a gay person would, but acceptance seems good on campus as nibrah said. Don’t let the fact that it’s a Catholic school turn you off either. The Jesuits are very accepting; in the diversity assembly during orientation (which was AWESOME btw, so good and not corny at all), one of the Jesuit staff members stressed the importance of diversity–and he said sexual orientation by name also, which I found impressive coming from a Catholic institution. The GU Pride club is pretty active as well and they offer a lot of resources, forums, etc. if you’re feeling left out or need to talk.</p>
<p>TAs as in teacher’s assistants? (I assume, but doesn’t fit with the gay part LOL). Bigger classes usually do have TAs that hold recitations once a week, but I find that if you get a good one, they are extremely helpful and add to the learning experience, if anything. For example, by microeconomics class had over 100 people in lecture, broken into TA groups of 15 or less. My TA was awesome and really explained things well, held office hours, etc. and helped me a lot. Others were less helpful, but they were not “teaching” the class either; the professor lectured and they just clarified.</p>
<p>TA’s: usually in a few introudcotyr level courses (Government, Econ, Philosophy) Professors will lecture twice a week (for about 1.5 hours each) and the TA will then meet with you once a week (for about 50min). Obviously though, there are variations.</p>
