Kudos to Georgetown for promptly issuing a detailed message to members of the Georgetown community.

I think that it’s also fortunate that this didn’t result in a really dangerous situation for the students. I can’t imagine that someone admitted and attending Georgetown would risk throwing away their lives like this.

Just imagine the parents of those two students–the glow of having their offspring admitted to Georgetown has barely worn off, and now they’re looking for criminal defense lawyers–if they can even afford them.

Seriously…there goes the college fund…to pay the lawyers.

High academic requirements, recommendation letters, essays, EC’s showing leadership, required interviews: all the things Georgetown and other elite universities look at in their holistic evaluation apparently are not adequate to measure character.

nice suburb of Tacoma

hmm * trying to think where that would be*
;)

What a horror story for the parents, I agree.

So this is how Georgetown is planning to up the endowment! Oh those Jesuits - anyway possible to raise the USNews rankings.
Seriously, thank goodness no one was hurt. Can’t wait to talk to son - a G-town grad.

Let’s hope he doesn’t regale you with all sorts of stories about what went on during his time at Georgetown, Dogwood!

I guess it is a blessing he is one who doesn’t like to share! Isn’t there a thread about calls parents do not want to receive from their child? I think we have a winner.

There should be a couple of spots for sophomore transfer students! Still time to get those apps in. What the hell’s a Hoya?

Google Hoya saxa and find out!

I’m curious. Were the two undergrads arrested roommates? Were they randomly assigned together and both happened to be down with producing hallucinogens in the room? Or is there an innocent roommate out there who was druglab-ciled from his room? Enquiring minds want to know.

Another person arrested today - different drug, same dorm.

"WASHINGTONIt was supposed to be the Georgetown University dorm room of an honors student studying foreign affairs, but police say what they found had the makings of a drug lab: a cooler with dry ice, a canister of carbon dioxide, ammonia, lighter fluid and a turkey baster.

A Georgetown University freshman and a friend from the University of Richmond were scheduled to appear Wednesday afternoon in federal court to face charges of manufacturing illegal drugs. Charles Smith and John Perrone, 18-year-olds from a Boston suburb, were arrested over the weekend."

Electronblue - there is an innocent roommate - he was released and they are not pressing charges against him. The 2 named above went to Andover together. Smith is a Georgetown freshman in SFS and Perrone is a freshman at Richmond. Or, at least they were.

Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a Georgetown University student on drug charges.

At 7:16 p.m. on Tuesday, police arrested first-year student Kelly Baltazar for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, according to Georgetown University spokeswoman Julie Bataille.

Baltazar is a resident of room 229 of Harbin Hall – the residence hall where three individuals were arrested on Saturday in connection to an alleged DMT lab.

Police acted on an anonymous tip provided to the Department of Public Safety, accroding to a DPS officer who asked not to be named. The DPS officer said that the amount of marijuana said to be in Baltazar’s possession was enough to warrant suspicion of intent to sell.

Baltazar was processed at MPD’s Second District station, and she is still in police custody.

Her case will go through the school’s disciplinary system, which is a confidential process, according to Bataille. Baltazar may face expulsion. She started school in August.

Both Georgetown University and MPD declined to comment on whether Baltazar’s arrest has any connection to the ongoing investigation of the DMT lab discovered in room 926 of Harbin Hall early on Saturday.

The kid could not have been a honors student. You can’t be an honor student til your senior year when you apply for an honors thesis.

From April of this year:

Seems like there already is a way to get colleges to tighten-up on on on-campus drug manufacturing/distribution.

2 are Georgetown freshmen (Charles Smith and John Romano)
1 is a University of Richmond freshman (John Perrone)

from the link above:

“During an arraignment Monday, a U.S. District Court ordered Perrone and Smith to be held without bond until a 1:30 p.m. hearing Wednesday, while Romano was released and will not face charges, according to ABC 7 News.”

Maybe the second Georgetown student (Romano) was an innocent roommate stuck in a bad situation. He was released and will not face charges.
