Georgetown & Second Semester? (Really Confused)

International Business/Affairs Major Freshman at Gannon University (small private catholic liberal arts school erie,pa)
Im trying to transfer to Georgetown University next fall;
HS GPA is 3.54 (top 25%)
First Semester College GPA is 3.92
[workload was easy, but my philosophy professor RARELY gave out As got a B+ =/]
ECs & Volunteer work are above average (going on two Habitat for Humanity International trips this year,Guatemala & Indonesia)
Recommendations should be way above average as well as reports and interview is coming up.

However…my standardized testing is horrible
SAT 1050,1150
ACT: (just retook)
SAT2: (taking math 1 and us history)

Next semester im taking 21credits (15-18 is average)
I can manage a 4.0 next semester giving me a 3.95 and 45 credits total.
The application is due March 1, the decision is made June 1.
Will they look at my second semester at all?

Probably not, but your best strategy would be to send midterm grades once you get them.

thanks I’ll definitely look into that, and with those SAT scores and such i know my chances are much lower. how much will they weigh on the overall process?

Not significantly, as the grades won’t be final.

any tips on getting in with test scores that low? I know they mean less now that I’m in college. I read one of your posts saying you used to be an admissions officer? Did you encounter this kind of situation often?

There are multiple issues with test scores. They are supposed to predict your performance in college, so presumably they should be useless if you already have a stellar record. But the problem is that not all colleges are alike in terms of rigor, so test scores always helped applicants with great grades from unknown schools prove their abilities on a more “universal scale.”

And a school isn’t “unknown” if it isn’t a top school. Your school would really have to be unknown. A 3.9 from UT-Austin, for instance, would be fantastic. But for applicants from community college or schools that nobody has ever heard of, it behooves you either to retake the standardized test or apply as a junior.

Most likely, your Spring grades wont reach GT on time. Spring grades usually become available in late May. And in late May, most decisions have already been made.

i checked semester grades, they come out around march10th or so for my university; deadline is March 1 possible to send them or no?

Then you’re on the quarter system and you should definitely send a transcript with the winter quarter grades. The transcript should reach the adcoms by mid-March, and as most school spend March on preparing the application files, by the time your application gets to adcoms, it will most likely contain the winter quarter grades.
