Georgetown Transfer Questions

@hookedongtown: Thank you!!

Yeah, I did enjoy my year in Foggy Bottom. Nice location (I live 2 blocks from the White House) and I made some lifelong friends here. Also, the Elliott School has a fine undergrad International Affairs program, this is a great place to be.

If you want to do international affairs or political science, you really can’t go wrong coming here. Those programs at GWU, while not quite on Georgetown’s level, are pretty prestigious in their own right. You’ll have a lot of fun here.

As the two schools I applied to transfer to (Georgetown SFS and Columbia) both have ridiculously low transfer acceptance rates, there’s a good chance I’ll be back here again in the Fall. I have a pretty good but not outstanding GPA, so for me it will all come down to what the AdCom thinks of my essays and my extracurriculars. I’m praying hard for a miracle.

While some absolutely love GWU’s location in downtown DC, others like me don’t appreciate a daily awakening by a litany of car horns on 19th St. Depends if you want to be right in the downtown area or a place that’s still urban, but a little more detached and quiet.

Also, class sizes in SFS tend to be smaller than at GWU.

Georgetown’s Catholic as well. Not quite to the extent of Notre Dame or BC, but of course more than GWU. So if you’re into that I guess it would be a plus.

And, if you want access to a traditional dining hall where you can get 24 all-you-can-eat meals a week, you have that at Georgetown but not at GWU. GWU’s “Colonial Cash” program will absolutely bankrupt you. Food here is so expensive it’s ridiculous.

But yeah, PM me if you want a very frank assessment of GWU from someone who goes there now.

Where does it say decisions are coming soon?

@ Irishlad

Thanks for that. I have pretty much the same gpa as you so im praying for a miracle as well lol. Im applying to the college branch of georgetown so hopefully that works in my favor. If the decisions are really coming out next week, good luck everyone with their decisions.

Don’t quite understand where this perception comes from that the College is less selective than the SFS. This year, if I’m not mistaken, the College had a lower acceptance right and higher grades/SATs. In previous years, the College has maybe been 1% or 2% less selective, but I don’t see how this marginal increase will be felt by its applicants in any perceptible way.

I just got contacted by my interviewer two days ago for an interview this Sunday in Boston. I guess this would mean decisions are not immediately forthcoming?

Interesting. I had given up hope of being given an interview, but I’m in New England as well - I hope I hear from someone as well! I know people have been saying that interviews aren’t a big deal, but it would be nice all the same.

Although, maybe they’re undecided about your application and want to know a little more about you? Who knows - either way, good luck!

when does georgetown announce decisions?

Officially not until June 1. Although if you look back at last years Georgetown transfer thread people started getting acceptance letters at the beginning of May.

Any news???

nope, nothing so far. called yesterday and got the same “june 1st” response. this is so annoying.

Only I few more days… -I hope…

I called today to ask if I could add more information to my application (I have a hard copy of a document that I’m going to hand deliver), and they said yes. So I doubt decisions are coming any time soon.

That’s kinda odd. People started hearing back on the 2nd and 3rd of May last year, and if I’m not mistaken the year before too… Maybe they really mean June 1st?? That would just be inhumane torture!

ughh i cant wait until june 1!!

I think many of you don’t know how the admissions committee works at Georgetown, or how decisions are made there. Unless you do, you should just stop speculating. It adds needless torture to an already stressful time.

Here is one example. Being permitted to add information to your file is not incompatible with he possibility of decisions having already been made.

Maybe those who applied very early will get their decisions soon. But since I electronically submitted my application the day of the deadline, mine’s likely to be the last to be reviewed.

There we go. Much better. But from what I know about when I applied, decisions were released in order of application strength.

I don’t think I’m permitted to say how it actually happens, though.

ohhhhh… damn, i am probably one of those “border-line” applicants who hears really late then :(
