Georgetown Transfer Questions

That makes sense.

I had my alumni interview in the Boston area yesterday and was very happy with how it went. The waiting game now begins as my deposit deadline for UVA approaches…

woah, that’s a pretty late interview lol.

I just got an email about an alumni interview…does that mean that I even remotely have a chance or does everyone get one. Sorry but I haven’t been active in this thread and I honestly didn’t even think I had a chance at all at getting in especially since I just got rejected from Cornell’s ILR school. Are they just messing with my head and everyone gets this email eventually? and how much does this interview even matter? Enough to make a difference?

As far as I know, the interview depends on the availability of alumni in your area. So nearly everyone gets an interview. But I could be wrong.

flowerhead, i was serfin through cc site and was so impressed by all your answers that i read everything. If its not too much trouble, could you chance me? I attend GWU right now
college gpa : 4.0
hs gpa : 2.8-3.0
sat : 1370
and I’ve done so many extra curricular activities regarding international politics. Please chance me and also if its okay, briefly enlighten me. just how much does high school gpa matter? im getting different answers from everybody so i am very confused. If anyone knows, please share it. thank you.

@ Heavensojiro92:
You have an awesome college GPA, so I would guess that’s a huge plus, but you may be at a disadvantage due to the large number of GWU students who apply to transfer to Georgetown, Flowerhead correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve heard that from a few sources.
Your SATs are good, so they may outweigh your high school GPA.
Good luck!

Just to set the tone, as we all seem to agree that decisions will be coming out within the next few weeks, lets set up a format for the acceptances/rejections/waitlists?

Would the first people to receive letters mind posting the envelope size, state that you live in, stats, and any important information written in the letter (aka total # of applicants, acceptance rates, waitlist letter details, etc.)? Also, if anyone speaks with admissions and gets information that would be useful to the rest of the group that would be appreciated. If anyone else has suggestions feel free to add on…

I do not think GW students are at a particular disadvantage, no. Every year, a substantial portion of the transfer class comes from GW.

However, as with any student applying from a school in DC, a GW student must have good reasons for wanting to go to Georgetown. This might prove more difficult than for a student applying from a non-DC school, since the applicant cannot avail him- or herself of the oft-used, “I want to study in DC” (and all variations thereof) reason. In that sense, then, applying from GW might prove particularly disadvantageous.

@FromWildcat2Hoya -great idea! It’ll be really helpful for the rest of us.

I really hope we hear by this week. I can’t take the wait any longer. I need Georgetown more than any other school and I would definitely not be happy anywhere else. :(

Eh, relax. Georgetown has its bad sides too. Every school does. It definitely isn’t paradise and definitely not worth staking your happiness on.

True. But after reading so much about Georgetown and just realizing how good of a fit I am for the Hilltop, I really don’t think I can go back to McGill. It has no personality, history, philosophy or traditions. I want to go to a SCHOOL (Georgetown) not a DEGREE-FACTORY (McGill).

“I want to go to a SCHOOL (Georgetown) not a DEGREE-FACTORY (McGill).”

Hahah Hookedongtown, that was kinda profound, and I feel the same.
Too bad that all of the ones I actually feel like I would be happy at are hard to get into.

@From Wildcat2hoya

I spoke with a few alumni from Georgetown, and unless something has changed, the envelope size is the same whether you get rejected or accepted. Its just a matter of the contents inside that we will be able to tell if we are accepted or not

Well, and the fatness of the envelope. The acceptance envelope has been stuffed with materials, given how small it is.

@heavensojiro92

I’m also applying from GWU. I’m pretty sure that Georgetown doesn’t have a limit on the number of transfers accepted from GW, in fact everyone I’ve asked said that many of us do get accepted, so I wouldn’t worry too much about that.

I take it you’re in the Elliott School now applying for SFS. I’m in the same boat as you. Your extracurriculars in international politics should help (depending on what exactly they are). Are you active in the International Affairs Society here? I’m not (because of ROTC, takes up too much of my time) but if you are it would definitely stand out on your application.

Anyway, I better get back to studying as my IAFF 005 final is in 3 hours. Good luck on Georgetown, I hope it ends favorably for you.

To be sure, you don’t know you’re a good fit for the Hilltop if you haven’t been there for a sustained period of time.

No news yet???

has anyone called the admission office to find out when the school is planning to release the decisions?
