Georgetown Transfer Questions

I wonder who will step in this year and be the transfer chance guy/girl Lol Last year it was flowerhead I think, should be interesting if anyone does it this year.

Is it easier to get into Georgetown as a McDonough applicant or an applicant of the regular college?

Thanks

I have a good question.
Can low SAT scores taken in college hurt your chances at getting into Georgetown?
I never took the SAT II Subject Tests in HS but I took 3 last January on the same day and got abyssmal scores (470 in Chemistry, 550 in Literature and 610 in U.S. History)

I didn’t take the exams seriously at all… I just walked in and winged them because I had taken classes in each subject the fall semester before I took them and didn’t figure they could hurt me at all cause I assumed every school I applied to would allow Score Choice.

And to make matters worse I retook the SAT this past October and only scored 50 points higher than my HS score from 3.5 years ago. (1950/2400)

Would these hurt my chances a lot despite the fact that I have a 3.8 GPA with 74 credits earned?

No, I only had 1150SATs and 28ACT; SAT2s were low 500s. 3.9 transfer GPA from an unknown school, below average high school record, lots of ‘other’ qualities on the application though; Georgetown is very holistic.

polinew,

It is said that the College is easier to get accepted to, but I really do not believe that one bit. It varies each year depending on the number of applicants to each school, usually from 15 to 18 percent. Apply to whatever major you feel most comfortable in studying and good luck

So, I have a bit of a strange question. It may become a two parter…

1) From an admissions perspective, would a transfer student from the University of Delaware or Catholic University be better? Is there even a preference?

More about me:

HS Info-
GPA: 3.3 Weighted, 2.9 Unweighted
SAT: 2170
SATII: Literature-700 US History-720
APs: 4 on US History, 5 on Biology
ECs: Rowing for 4 years- my boat was 4th in the country my senior year and I’ve kept up my training. If I were to go to Georgetown, I would be very competitive on their Lightweight Team.

Currently, I’m taking a gap year. I work as an intern at the National Museum of American History. I’ve spent most of my time there working on an exhibit that will go up this May/June. My boss likes me and would provide me with a req. I also have solid reqs from HS.

Along with that, I’ve been taking (and will most likely continue to take) Arabic at the Middle East Institute here in DC. I grew up in Washington and have spent a lot of time in and around the Georgetown campus.

Next year, I will either be attending CUA or UDel. No matter what, I realize I have to really excel in my classes. What I’m concerned about is, would one school be favored over another given the same GPA? What increases my chances the most?

gottasweep,

Did you call up admissions and ask them about it. If you let them know that you are interested and find out what school would offer a program closest to Georgetown’s curriculum, I am sure it will help you while at the same time show the admissions you are interested. Both of those schools are pretty good, so I don’t think it matters where you go. My advice would be to attend the school you feel comfortable going to because if Georgetown does not work out, you want to have a solid backup school.

I have yet to receive my email with info for my second part of the online application. When I filled it out Thursday night, the form stated that I would get an email within 36 hours with the information needed.

I’m panicking a bit, because I am not a traditional applicant. I’m a year ahead, at a CC, and was home schooled. I have not taken the SAT or ACT test. I called their offices a while ago, and was told that while they would like the test scores, they weren’t absolutely essential for acceptance — I should apply.

However, after reading through 120 pages, I’m now working on an ulcer that I have affectionately named George.

Is there a chance that I’m going to get rejected based solely on the first part of the application?

It takes time, i waited two weeks and nothing. I finally called and they gave me the code over the phone. Then i applied and got it like three days later by email. LOL. Just call and ask.

Hi. I am applying to Georgetown, George Washington, and American as a transfer student. I graduated H.S. in May of 2010 with a 3.2 GPA and a 24 on the ACT. I played basketball for two years in high school, and I have had a part time job since I was fifteen. I started college classes in my junior year of H.S. and now I have about 54 credits completed! My college GPA is a 3.92. I have about 3 or 4 letters of recommendation for each school. Do you think I will get in to any of these?

Thanks pink! I called and you were right — I was worried for nothing.

Has anyone heard anything? Like interviews or anything?..Just anxious.

Nothing yet, and we probably won’t hear anything for a while. I didnt hear about my interview last year until around April, and didn’t get a response until late May/Early June. Good luck to everyone and their applications this year

I’m surprised they don’t have a Mid-Term Report.

^^^Really? I thought they did.

Pink, I looked on the required documents for transfer students and it wasn’t there. Then I called the admissions office inquiring about a mid-term report and the lady said there is one. Then I said, I don’t see it on the website. Then she said then don’t worry about it. LOL. Getting into SFS to do CULP would be a dream come true so I’m a little annoyed the woman sounded so nonchalant about it.

lol. Thanks. that is surprising.

The thread seems pretty relatively quiet this year. I wonder if it is because there is less applicants or just less users on CC

Oops, I meant to say are*

I do hope fewer people applied… I know I applied. my chances are slim to none. but its my dream school and I couldn’t let the chance pass me by. good luck to everyone.
