Georgetown Transfer Questions

anyone ^ ??

^ Yea, you’re probably either rejected or waitlisted. I requested an early read and was waitlisted.

I had average grades in high school, and now I have a 3.62 in my CC. Do I have to send my high school transcript??? Or can I transfer as a
Junior and avoid sending my transcript from high school???

You have to send both your high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores even if you apply as a junior. However, the SAT/ACT requirement is waived if you have been out of school for five years.

[Transfer Application - Office of Undergraduate Admissions](Transfer Application | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | Georgetown University)

Hello!

I recently finished my freshman year of college at my local community college. I decided to attend a community college for my first two years of college in order to save some money. Now I am hoping to transfer to a 4 year school as a junior and Georgetown is at the top of my list.

My high school record isn’t that impressive (SAT 1740 out of 2400, GPA 2.9)

By the time I’m transferring though, I will have an honors degree from my community college, a GPA between 3.8 and 4.0, an internship with a large PR firm in my area, and I’ll have traveled to India for a ministry trip which will double as an independent study.

I’m also active in several on campus activities (literary magazine, speech and communications club, campus players)

How likely is it that Georgetown would assuming that I have a good essay and my interview goes well…how likely is it that Georgetown would accept a student like me?
Should I retake the SAT’s?
I never took the ACT’s, should I take them before applying?

Take the SATs, you need to raise the score by at least 300 points. They still look at the SAT if you want to be a competitive applicant. I’m studying for them right now and raising them before I transfer!

Hi
I only have two really simple questions. How many freshmen enrolled this year? How many seats are here remaining for transfer students? Thank you!

Chances
So I’m in my first year of community college in NJ. I want to try and transfer to Georgetown at the beginning of next year so i’d be a sophomore.l For arguments sake, lets just say i have a 4.0 after my first year(planning on it). I’m part of phi theta kappa(greek honors assosciation), the radio club and the business club. I work 4 days a week and full time during the summer. A net price calculator through Georgetown said that i would be paying 15k a year there.
My high school stats are not that impressive…3.29 gpa with relatively hard courses, 27 act, few clubs few sports church community service. Im just wondering what kinda chances i have transferring into Georgetown sophomore year from out of state with these credentials.

Hi!

This is just a preemptive email, since I’ve only just begun thinking about this prospect, but I have it in mind to apply to Georgetown. At the moment, I am a freshman at NOVA; I’ve only just started college in Fall 2012, and since finals aren’t technically over I don’t know my GPA at the moment, but I’m going to assume it’s somewhere between 3.75-3.50.

In June, I’ll have been out of school for 5 years–if I’m going to be applying for Fall 2013, of course I’d have to apply early action though, in January. Should I go ahead and take the SATs, or do you think they would be waived considering by the time school would actually start, I would have been out for a little while? (I know none of you can give me absolute concrete answers; like I said, this is just a little information-gathering sort of post).

Otherwise, I’ve never actually taken the SATs or ACTs, so I have no score.

I want to say my high school GPA was something like 3.3? I really don’t know how much weight that’ll carry considering, again, I’ve been out of school for some time.

I recently left the Marine Corps; that’s what I did between graduating and this recent semester of college. I suppose that counts as an extracurricular? Otherwise, I volunteered at an animal sanctuary for a little while, and that’s about all I’ve done as far as community service type things.

With the Marine Corps, I spent two years stationed overseas in Japan, so I do have some foreign experience.

With all of this in mind, do you think I even have a shot? Of course, I wouldn’t even consider trying to transfer until Fall 2013, so I have time to fix something that is broken. Is there anything I could improve on?

Thank you very much for your help!

Is there early action for g-town as a transfer? W/the NOVA classes you’d be a transfer if I’m not mistaken?

I’ll be applying for fall 2013 myself…did the AF and I think the military experience helps us out a lot. Yellow Ribbon also covers us fully @ Columbia GS which makes it reasonable for ex-military tuition wise and the admit rates are pretty high relative to other elite schools…another transfer option to look into

I would be a transfer, yes. And I have absolutely no idea if there’s an early-action… I literally just decided yesterday that I would even try to transfer to GU; before this I was dead set on Marymount, until I learned that they’re getting rid of my Bachelor’s program next year so I won’t actually be able to finish the degree that I’d wanted. So I’m changing my degree instead!

I completely forgot about the Yellow Ribbon Program. It looks like, for Georgetown, they give you about $5000 for the undergraduate program, which is minuscule compared with the tuition but at least helpful!

By Columbia do you mean the college up in New York? I’m permanently locating to Virginia–I refuse to leave until I’ve gotten enough government work experience to make my resume super awesome. I’m not particularly fond of NY, anyway…

I hear you…yellow ribbon should cover full tuition for us at private schools…pretty cool program that doesn’t get tons of publicity. I grew up right by Marymount…nice area…what’s your major? GW is also a good school and way easier to get into (safety) and even better located for internships downtown near all the fed govt buildings

I actually wanted to go to GW for a while, but I hear soooo much about George Mason and Georgetown–absolutely nothing about GW. It makes me nervous about job placement, because I hear that’s huge at GU.

I was going to major in Paralegal Studies–but honestly, compared to military law, American law sucks. I would never be able to sleep at night if I went into it; my conscience would eat me alive. Haha! Marymount is very beautiful, though, and everyone is so nice! I took myself on a campus visit, just to see what it was like.

What’s yours?

GW is a fringe top 50 ranked college…bounces in and out of the top 50 on US News…definitely a much better school than George Mason (got recruited to play soccer for both/have friends that went to both)

For law: GW is ranked 20th, G-town is 14th, & Mason is 39th nationally so clearly GW is no slouch if you wanna pursue law some day. definitely look into GW as its much better connected to DC and those opportunities than GMU which is out in Fairfax. As far as campus location I think GW’s is best as its on a metro line and in the heart of NW Washington. G-town is clearly the best of the area schools but if money is not an issue (and isn’t w/the yellow ribbon) then you should look into GW as a semi safety as its definitely better than the others in the area outside of G-town.

DC school rankings in my opinion as a local:
1)G-town
2)GW/UMD
3)American/GMU
4)Marymount/Catholic/Howard

I’m currently double majoring econ & public health (trying to go to med school) but will likely drop one depending on what school I end up in after transferring. G-town looking like I’d do econ if I get in.

Well, I’m going to switch my major to English, I think. I really don’t like American law. >_< Do you know anything about the English programs at either college? Or job placement at the English department? Any college that’ll get me a job at a publishing house right after graduation, I’d pay them ANYTHING! Haha.

Don’t know much regarding either English department but if you get strong grades at any of the schools you’ll be fine…Do know Northwestern & Columbia are the most well regarded grad schools for journalism if you’re interested in that and am certain a masters from either would put you in a good position. Old girlfriend went to NW for her masters and had a 3.7 gpa in English from a solid state school (on par w/UMD)

Hi! Can somebody chance me please? Georgetown is my first choice and I’m dying to go there! I just finished a semester at a top 50 national university.

International Asian student (girl)
HS GPA: 3.5
SAT: 1460/1600 (R:670/M:790)
College gpa: 3.8 or 3.9
Some decent extra curricular regarding North Korea
Good recommendation papers

How much of a chance do I have? Any advice will be appreciated :)

Hi I’m going to be a freshman in college fall 2013. I love Georgetown and it’s my dream school, but I got rejected.
My GPA in High School is currently 3.7/4.5 (in IB)
SAT was low: 1870/2400
SAT Subject tests: Math II (720), Spanish (800), Literature (500, I took it without studying)

My choices for a college are:
UC Santa Barbara (#43)
U Florida (#51)
Emory University (#20)

I am extremely motivated now and I know that I will be able to do really well where ever I go. The reasons for my bad grades was because of family issues and moving to three different high schools. I’m Greek/Costa Rican. I do rowing and speech and debate. I really want to transfer to Georgetown as soon as possible. Do you think it would be better to apply after two years in one of those universities or in one year? Do you also think I should re-take the SAT or ACT to elevate the score? Which choice of university do you think will strengthen my chances? and do you think they look at CC students better?
