Georgetown vs. Brown PLME

I’m really torn between going to Georgetown or being part of the PLME program at Brown. Before I received my acceptance to PLME, I was completely ready to say I was going to Georgetown. I’ve lived in RI my whole life and spend a ton of my time in Providence, and while I love Brown, I would have chosen Georgetown over regular Brown undergrad in a heartbeat. DC is an amazing city and I loved Gtown when I visited. I had assumed that I’d be going far away for college and I honestly don’t love the idea of being twenty minutes from home at all. However, the idea of passing up automatic admission to med school is really scary. I had planned to major in biology, but now I think I may want to do political science, as well. What’s ironic is that going to Brown means having to freedom to explore poly sci and whatever else I want without having to worry about applying to med school, but I really can’t imagine a better place for poly sci than Georgetown. I know that I’m lucky that I get to decide between these two amazing schools, but I feel like I’m going to be kicking myself either way. Any advice?

Sorry I just realized I put this in the wrong thread. Oops.

Bumpppppppppp

Anyone???

I think it’s very valuable to go away to school. That is clearly your dream. The MCAT is a pain in the neck, but if you put in the effort in your science classes, it’s very unlikely that you won’t be able to go to med school after Gtown. You can still explore all you want.

It sounds like you are not really so sure you want to stick with being a premed?? If so, give up the PLME spot to someone it will be more “right” for. I would look very carefully at the polisci major and all other courses you would have to take (distribution requirements) at Georgetown to see if you can do that and premed courses needed for applying to med schools. As a RI resident you have the only chance of getting into Brown Med if later you want to apply back from Georgetown, if you lived in another state, it would be impossible.

Going “away” is a very growing experience, and 8 years in Providence will not help that part. If you have not visited both schools overnight with premed students, that might be very helpful in deciding.
