Georgetown vs Oberlin

What are people’s thoughts on georgetown versus Oberlin? Public school educated city boy who loves hip hop, progressive politics, smart people who question conventional wisdom, and baseball is faced with this decision.

I’m an Oberlin parent of a very happy student. In terms of poltical action, I would qualify dannybrown’s statement: If you like your politics at the Federal level then obviously Georgetown. However, Ohio is a swing state and lots of Obies get involved in local/state politics. There is more than enough progressive political and social activism at Oberlin to keep you happy.

Some pluses for Oberlin for us were the January term, the fabulous music lessons and other Con resources and the Exco offerings.

Oberlin definitely has lots of people that go against conventional wisdom. They are also a strong liberal arts school that tends to attract a lot of ‘hipster’ students. However, Georgetown is the better choice for politics.
