Georgetown will accept Common App starting in fall 2025

Georgetown University will begin accepting the Common Application in this fall’s application cycle, multiple sources familiar with the decision confirmed to The Hoya.

The shift, which will begin with applicants for admission to the undergraduate Class of 2030, marks a major change away from the university’s years-long practice of using its own application for undergraduate admission.

A university spokesperson declined to comment. A spokesperson for the Common Application did not respond to requests for comment.

I don’t think you’re wrong, BUT I do wonder if all the news about their purposefully taking students that were big donors, etc. could cause them to look at the Common App as a way to deliver a little more inclusivity. Now they can make it easy for kids that might not have considered Georgetown because it felt like it was too much work. The rich kids that were using admissions consultants and essay writers were going to be comfortable filling out the app no matter what.

I don’t think this is necessarily true, but it’s fun to think about all the weird stuff that’s going on behind closed doors that leads to something like this. And all this said, but I actually did like the hurdle that G’town put here. If you really wanted to go, you’d spend the time on their custom app. If you were shotgunning schools, then you’d probably exclude them.

Maybe they don’t like BC having so many more apps - and being on parallel with Nova - even with its outsized rep ?

Really no idea.

At least you won’t need additional recs (I hope).

Wow! Luckily 2026 bound students.

They need to start offsetting the loss of full pay international students, so this seems like a good start.

Actually, it’s 2027 bound students. It will start with class of 2031 applicants. Original reporting was wrong…the conversion process takes over one year for a college to start using Common App after committing to using it.

That doesn’t sound right. Why would it take a year to add a college to Common App? Georgetown probably already uses Slate.

There is a process to go thru, but seems like it could be ready by August 1.

This move makes me wonder if Charles Deacon might be retiring over the next year or two?

Common app schools don’t have to use Slate. I’m not sure which CRM Georgetown uses, but that wouldn’t impact the integration to common app AFAIK.

He’s in his 80s, I think, so that would make sense. If he were to retire, I wonder what else, if anything, about the process might change there, specifically about the way they choose admits, read essays, etc.
