Scared now. Will he get summer option?
Scared that he won’t get into any other colleges that he applied.

Some ECs and community volunteering but nothing that stands out.
It was his first choice as of now so this one is tough but he’s taking in stride - college admissions is a numbers game and having a positive attitude about the schools you are accepted to and you ultimately choose is so important. Be grateful for the schools you got into because there are thousands of kids across the country who are heartbroken and would love to be in your shoes.
As a reference point for future applicants, he’s in at:
Purdue Honors, Clemson, Maryland, Baylor, Cal Santa Cruz and Rutgers for ME.
UIUC for Chemistry not engineering.
Cal SD for Chem Engineering.
Rejected ED at UVA and EA at UT Austin.
Still waiting on Michigan and Wisconsin and a couple of private schools like Northeastern, Lehigh and Villanova.
Congrats all of you going to GT - it really is a fantastic school.
Did GT send a notification email or do you have to log onto the admission portal for a decision? The admissions portal is not recognizing my son’s email even though he can get into his GT Passport account?
What it means is that it is still regular admissions but your only option is to start in the summer session if you want to accept. Why is harder to answer. They may have felt you would benefit from the jump start of a short semester to easy you into college at GT, but this is just speculation.
My son got on the waitlist and I am wondering how much time a student has to accept if they get an offer. Does anyone know the timing for this? Trying to decide whether we should visit now or do it when/if he gets an offer. We don’t want to fly right now if we don’t have to!
@ravenpenelope Check GT’s website for visit info. I think everything is canceled until March 29th. They’ll re-evaluate visits at that point. We’re in the same boat. Want to visit but not crazy about flying right now. I think a lot of kids are in the same position.

Honestly if it weren’t for music and school leadership I probably wouldn’t have got in ?
Your child should be offered the Conditional Transfer Pathway in the event they are not taken off the wait list, so that option is still on the table.

Son wait listed after EA deferral - for Mechanical Engineering
I wished we had also applied at many colleges. We thought he would get in on some we applied and his lazy back didn’t want to write more essays. He applied to some colleges which were like high reach for him ( we thought reach) . Now, we might not have anything. Focused on ED at CMU and EA at GTech which were far far reach for him , (he put all eggs in two baskets). We are first generation immigrant and didn’t know it is this tough. Looks like we are screwed big time.
i got waitlisted after being deferred early action! why does tech not like me?
tenseMom - it’s not too late to apply to some schools - albeit they will not be as competitive as CM and GT. I am sure your kid is high stats if applying to CM and GT, so I would apply to other schools and there’s always the opportunity to transfer after 1st year.
They have a summer program that some students are placed into. my friend did it last year for the class of 2023, and as far as i know if you’re selected there’s not much option to get out of it as she was unable to. it’s only around 4-6 credit hours and she ended up really liking it.
GT has a comparatively high transfer in admission rate around 30%.
So his sophomore or junior year he can try to transfer in. It’s much easier than freshmen admissions.
The intro summer programs are meant to ease you into the academic discipline that you need to be successful at Tech… build confidence. They are great programs.
The programs are intended for students that were borderline or got in by the skin of their teeth. Who might not have had impressive stats, but were great leaders and involved. So they have statistically identified you as someone who may have difficulty in the past. Getting early hours will put you ahead for class registration and you’ll get better choice of classes, profs. It’s for your own good and these programs have proven to be successful.
They have a video of students that took it to give you an idea.
