By any chance has anyone called GT admissions to see if they have any new info?
i emailed them yesterday and all they did was reiterate that the waitlist is still open and will most likely be open through the remainder of the summer
Anyone got off their waitlist?
We have asked ourselves what we would do at this late date if an offer came from GT. At this point we have dorm, dining, first semester schedule, hotel for move in, sports package (whatever that will look like this year). It would take a huge paradigm shift to go from Purdue to GT. My son says he doesn’t even care at this point. Waiting since January 15 is kind of cruel and inhuman punishment for those who applied EA!
I agree it’s very cruel for students to sit around and wait since January. The same case for my daughter, early application, and has been waiting since January. Either tell the kids “yes” “no” or at least give students the option to work with them and prep them to transfer. I called and they told me they’re still waiting for some kids who have deferred their decisions. So we’re looking at mid-July. Considering the students already missed their proms and HS graduations, you would think the school would have a bit more empathy towards these students. Very sad!
@eliz4rnj if he is truly happy with Purdue at this point and dosen’t care about GT anymore, then I would recommend having his name removed from the waitlist
This is so true. Very sad. Yes waiting since January.
The schools are in a bind. It’s a huge problem this pandemic. No one knows how this will work in actuality. I don’t think the schools are being intentionally cruel. I would look at it like you have a shot but try to get invested in the current school. Be ready to switch if you still want the shot. If not, then come off the waitlist so that you don’t delay another student from being offered a spot. That would be cruel
“cruel” and “inhuman” is a bit strong, especially in light of what is happening globally, nationally, and most recently in Atlanta. Any other year you might get some sympathy, but not now, no chance. My guess is that your son has welcomed Purdue with open arms and it is you who is not yet willing to give up on GT. If your son does not care at this point he should remove his name from the waitlist, it might help you too. Will be tough at first, but you will get past it. For me personally my son has been accepted to a quality university but still has interest in GT so he will continue to wait patiently.
Well I certainly never meant to offend. ‘Cruel and inhuman’ was a tongue and cheek quote. This spring has been exceptionally difficult to all, many have suffered a lot more than my family has. My son is still very interested in GT, and his ‘I don’t care anymore’, is more of a ‘this has been an exhausting spring and now summer and it’s hard to get excited about anything.’ Best of luck to everyone waiting and all decisions still to be made.
Any news?
@sleeplessmom1 did they say anything about when the kids who deferred have to make a decision by?
10% of their freshmen are from aboard (from their website). 8% might not come ( my guess). I thought our kids may have chance. Mostly OOS kids.
But these lines took my hopes away. Their fall classes are online too??
“At this point, all students slated for fall and summer enrollment will be issued a fall I-20. Students slated to begin in the summer may do so, as all classes will be offered online.”
@tenseMom hang in there
No, I didn’t push that hard with my questions. All she gave me was everyone should be notified by July 15.
At least they gave us a solid deadline. Good luck to everyone still waiting.
that date makes sense, suspect other universities will be looking for additional, more meaningful deposits around that time.
Did anyone else get an email to “reaffirm your waitlist spot?” It said “at this time, we are not making additional admission offers. However, we will continue to evaluate our class through July.”
Ya, pretty sure everyone still on the waitlist got it.
Does this mean they gave to some and now stopped and will start again on July??
