Georgia Tech class of 2024 waitlist thread

@Kandycandy That sounds possible. Might wanna double check if it’s actually ED!

By the way, I didn’t apply to any apparent safety but maybe UC San Diego for me? It’s the lowest school I applied and got accepted.

@kailkys are you from California? if you’re from ga then maybe apply for some instate school for Zell miller?

Is there any chance whatsoever for Electrical Engineering majors on the waitlist?

I got waitlisted for CS…
Does anyone know by when the waitlist decisions will be out?

I also got waitlisted. Kinda sucks because this was a somewhat backup school I was sure I would get into. (I’m kinda cocky)

Stats:
1440 SAT
GPA:
4.00 unweighted
5.05 weighted
Ranked 4 / 550-ish
9 AP Classes
Took 3 AP Tests
APUSH (4), AP Lang (4), AP Calc BC (2)- A lot of people in my class did awful on the Calc exam

I guess I had a really bad essay…

@huskypie Decisions for waitlisting comes out by May 1st

@MathGuy100 Yes me!

@Kandycandy No I’m an international. Thank you for the suggestion though!

I believe we all have reasons for being considered again later in the year-- we’re all qualified! Since there is nothing else we can do at this point, let’s try to stay calm and take care of other important aspects. Wish for the best for all of us!!!

yes and I heard the getting transfer is easier than first-year admission, so you can transfer if needed.

Just a quick thought but we may see waitlist numbers go up due to the Coronavirus factor. Schools are ultimately worried about net yield and this will be a year like no other. There will now be some students who due to financial issues will not be able to attend and who knows what will happen with international students. Last year 3800 students were offered waitlist, 2623 accepted a place on the waitlist, and 632 were ultimately admitted from the waitlist. IMO, I would expect to see that number go up. Hang in there, waitlisters!

@CollegeAdvisorMom I am not sure it will go up. Last year was the most, by far, off the waitlist they have ever taken, so that was not the norm. The year before they only took 72 and this year they accepted more students compensate. Even with the covid-19 I would be surprised if they match or exceed last years.

Hi, I was recently waitlisted. I received an email a few days ago from the office of Scholarships & Financial Aid saying my financial aid application was incomplete. According to the website, "If you are accepted from the waitlist, the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid (OSFA) will notify you of the status of your financial aid application. ". I think I’m giving myself false hope but could this be good news or did all waitlist applicants receive this?

Maybe it was because of the incomplete status. Many applicants sent in aid applications earlier. Your status must be available on buzz port.

I’m a senior attending the American Community School of Beirut in Lebanon, and I applied to Georgia Tech (Knowing it has a 10% acceptance rate for international students). It’s been my dream school since I started looking at universities. I am a relatively high achiever, however I had to take 3 different programs during my high school years due to terrible Lebanese diploma policies. I also felt like my SAT score did not reflect my capabilities, especially in Math as I only got a 710 (although I had an A- in IB higher level mathematics). I think that my standing was relatively weak overall, but I am a very competitive runner and even took part in the U20 World Championships in Denmark Last year. I didn’t have a lot of faith in myself, and I thought I was going to get rejected, however I got waitlisted. I’m still very worried though. Does anyone know if Georgia Tech waitlisted more people due to the COVID-19 outbreak?

This waiting is killing us all.

I am sure it was definitely not because of the COVID-19 outbreak. But again, that might ultimately play a role in tampering the yield rate, as Georgia is ranked highly in the number of COVID-19 cases.

I have spoken with some waitlisted students and not all have received this email. The language is clear on the FAQ for waitlist on the website stating that if you are accepted, OFAS will contact you with any missing documents. Last year the first wave of students started hearing April 18th; this year may be sooner with COVID-19 .

@Ellamarie do you know if the students who received an email from OFAS only received an email because they didn’t fill out the application or were missing items. It might make sense that some waitlisted students didn’t receive an email because they properly filled out their application. I actually never even filled my application out so I thought it might be automated. But I don’t understand why I wouldn’t have received an email from OFAS before decisions came out. Ughh, I just want it to come out. I know I have like literally no chance but I keep getting my hopes up.

DD20 applied early and Georgia Tech was supposed to be a match school but waitlisted. She’s a National Merit Finalist, National AP Scholar (8 or more with >4…0), school rank 1/129, decent EC /CS, decent Recommendation Letters by guidance counselor and teachers BUT out of state (Florida). I know they are supposed to take in-state students before out-of-state but the bar seems to be higher. I wonder if it’s because she applied to BME which is now ranked #2?

Did they ask you for those things at any other time during this whole admission process? During ED or Regular? If not, why would they bother to gather the documents now? I don’t Want to get your hopes up, but that only makes sense.
