Georgia Tech class of 2024 waitlist thread

My child was waitlisted at both GaTech and Michigan.
Just got accepted to Michigan. Will not accept invitation unless there are some money involved (I strongly doubt it.) OOS in Michigan is 51k + room and board.
Acceptance was emailed today.

Yes, meant University of Michigan.

Same here my child wait listed for Umich, UC-UIC and GTECH. We are in-state for Tech so I doubt they will take my child. 51K Michigan wow, we are also on a same boat. UC-UIC is also same amount I think. At this point we are desperately waiting. Whenever I see anything here I tell my child to check his email and now he is already sick of me :frowning:

Major is BME and we are from Maryland (with roots from Georgia and majority of
family graduated from GaTech). Still hoping for GaTech.
Otherwise will commit to UMD next week. (Also accepted to Carnegie and Case Western. Very high stats and good EC but no major hooks.)
Did not expected acceptance from UMichigan at this point. It is very popular in our area (much more than GaTech, I have no clue why.) Almost every senior in my child’s program applied for it, and 24 out 25 were waitlisted…

My son did ED on CMU for CS as it was his dream college and screwed essays on all others I think. CMU was only on his mind and got rejected :frowning:

My DC got to Carnegie for Engineering limited to Chemical, Environmental or Mechanical. Not allowed to choose Electrical or Computer Egineering. BME is only add on as second engineering major. Best friend got accepted to CS at GaTech and waitlisted for Carnegie. Both will attend UMD :frowning:

We are in the same boat here - Got acceptance from Purdue ISyE and UIUC CS but waitlisted for instate GT. Eagerly awaiting for the GT waitlist decisions to come out soon.

wow UIUC CS is like GTech correct? But Instate tech will be so much better.

ISyE is so different from CS… You can graduate with BS in ISyE with 1-2 basic programming classes. Both degrees can be used together for grad school, but BS programs are so different. Is your child aware?

Thanks - Yes he did take a detailed look at the proposed course structure and given his interest he decided on this choice. One of the major factors on his decision was the fact that CS is part of the School of Engg. at UIUC.

But as @tenseMom pointed earlier - GT would have been much better …

My DC just got acceptance to GaTech! We are over the moon!
Did not pay deposits anywhere yet. Go Jackets!!!

Congratulations!!! I hope we also get good news before May 1st.

@momsearcheng Congrats! How did you find out? email or call, portal change? Did anyone else find out today or yesterday?

I went upstairs to check on my child, he didn’t get any emails :frowning: we don’t know if we should wait till May 1st noon or go ahead and deposit now to his safety school? Wasted so much money on applications, don’t want to waste on deposits too .

DC got email. Email mentioned that very small number of students ( I suspect that means less than 50?) got accepted from waitlist today. Admission office probably did some Math today and realized that can offer few more spots today prior to May 1st. We just got lucky. I suspect that there will be another wave after May 1st -commitment day. I would say OOS students still have hope. I am not so sure about in-state. (I am curious what all schools are going to do with spots for international students who cannot get visas now - most likely OOS students will get their spots…) Good luck!

Make deposit Friday morning if nothing will show up tomorrow.
We got lucky that we did not pay deposit. I told DC to hold while whole extended family was pushing to commit last couple days.

Just got taken off the waitlist today! At 12:11

OOS or instate? Asking my child to take away his FAFSA and all. Do you all think there might be some chance ?

@tenseMom if you qualify for financial aid, how do you plan to pay the tuition (here I assume you are OOS) ? if you don’t qualify for financial aid, then why bother to file FASFA ? If you can afford to pay the OOS tuition and 100% sure will go if they accept you, then 1. ask your school counselor to write a letter to GT regional AO and promise your kid will 100% to attend if admitted, 2. email GT to drop the FAFSA and show your plan to pay the tuition. If you are in-state, then it is different story.
