Georgia Tech Class of 2030 Official RD Thread

Not really much of a thing at GT. All kids top stats. My kid doesn’t know anyone that’s in it or applied for it. There are some posts above or earlier that I think addressed this don’t think it’s any advantage.

Mine did, and she accepted – primarily for the housing. Honors program students live in the 8th Street apartments on West campus. For many students, this is a drawback, because it’s quieter and farther away from Greek life and some of the more social stuff happening.

But for my kid, the perk of having her own room within an apartment, and only sharing a bathroom with one other student was HUGE. She’s an introvert, and being able to have a private space to retreat will be great for her.

What’s more, she plans to join marching band – I expect that’s where she’ll find her community rather than Greek life – and the band rehearses on West campus near the rec center. So the honors program housing made perfect sense for her.

In terms of the program itself, there are three components – take a couple of “honors” classes (which are just smaller sections of regular classes), do an experiential something for several semesters (research, internship or study abroad – all of which she’s hoping to do anyway), and then some kind of presentation at a conference senior year.

She isn’t worried about any of these things, and she’ll do them if she can do so easily, otherwise she’ll drop honors and not worry about it further. The honors program designation is not likely to make any difference in terms of finding a job or internship. (It’s totally different than graduating with Latin honors, which is just based on GPA.)

Yes, absolutely take four classes. I attended FASET with my oldest and the advisor recommended it to the entire cohort. She said 12 or 13 hours maximum fall semester. My kids had so many extra hours from AP and freshman summer that they’ve only really ever taken 12 or 13 hours.

Good advice, thank you! She’ll definitely follow that.

She’s going in with only six AP classes because her school limits to max six – if she does well on her three exams this year, then she’ll get out of both differential and integral Calc, one lab science including the lab, one English, and one history. They don’t give credit for AP Physics 1 as a lab science, but she should get elective credit for it.

So not a ton, but still enough that it will give her a little breathing room.

will there be a waitlist thread for the class of 2030 please? That would be helpful

Does suddenly having access to folio mean anything? Im on the waitlist btw. Never could log into it before.

Hello… just wondering if there has been any waitlist movement yet…. and when does it usually happen for georgia tech?
