You have no idea what you are complaining about. DD who is a senior pushed housing button the first moment it was available. She is 500th on the waitlist. Housing is recommending to rent outside, the problem DD will graduate in December…
She will most likely get freshman shared room housing 2 weeks before classes (we already been there 1 year ago…as junior). Alternatively, 2 weeks before school parents will be runing around trying to find some month to month apartments for 4 months. We are OOS. Housing is guaranteed only for freshmen.
That’s a tough spot to be in and something that is very common at Georgia Tech – December graduation. Not sure how sororities work, but for students in fraternities who have houses the problem is easily solved by just living in the house for the fall semester. That is what my oldest did. Not sure what we would’ve done If he hadn’t had that option – guess we would have just crossed fingers for a fall sublease?
My DD is not in fraternity or sorority. We also refused to do 1 year lease (DD suggested. We just can’t do it with 3 kids in college. ) Some of her friends did a one year lease if they planned to stay in Atlanta. We have no idea where DD will end up, so we will play Russian roulette and hope for the best…
In the worst case scenario (after options A to Z are exausted) we will post in awesome GaTech parent Facebook SOS for some GaTech parents within metro Atlanta to host homeless student for 4 months for money and send her to Atlanta with a car…
My nephew rented a room in the summer directly from Square on 5th. Expensive but easy way to sublease. I bet other apartments near Tech would do the same. Good luck!
Actually it is extremely difficult. There are thousand students who try to sublease during summer without success. (There are very few visiting for summer or summer students. There is no problem to get housing for summer.) There are also not that many students who need housing only for spring (went for internship or study abroad for fall) and do not have some arrangement.
I’m sure there are few in numbers, but it might be worth a call. There are a lot of kids that co-op fall semester and are not in Atlanta. There are also a few like my son had a fall internship Definitely harder than summer though -
Call where? I would love to sublease for 4 months in Fall, but I doubt it would happen.
There are hundreds sublease posts for Summer on Facebook at Gatech. So it is impossible to rent summer out to someone of you have a lease for a year.
Call each of the apartment complexes. Not sure they all do it, but my nephew rented directly through Square on Fifth as a sublease in the summer. My sister just called the main number and they set him up with a sublease. He was in high school at the time which is why she needed to clear that directly with them and it was not a problem
Also, I just googled and Georgia Tech has a link for short term housing on their website, and they say to ask if they give a Georgia Tech student discount. Many of these are extended stay hotels, but there are several apartment complexes that offer shorter leases.
