I just got off the Georgia Tech waitlist and am torn on what to do. I am currently planning on attending UW-Madison this fall and have gotten very excited with a good dorm and roommate, however, Tech was my top choice before the admissions process. I am planning on majoring in Industrial Engineering and am out of state for both. Should I switch?
Both of these universities are superb. Two issues come to mind.
One is finances. Is one of these schools more affordable for you compared to the other? Are both affordable without you or your family taking on loans?
The other issue is fit. Which is a better fit for you? This can be more difficult to figure out.
One possible thing to do is to look at the course requirements for graduating from both schools. You should consider both general requirements and major-specific requirements.
IMHO you should ignore rankings. You are comparing superb with superb. Any tiny difference in rankings just do not matter.
Both excellent schools. Question comes to affordability. If they are equal, is it also the right fit. Both schools are different culture wise/size wise . I would evaluate what you like and dislike about both schools.
For Industrial Engineering absolutely go to GaTech if you can afford it. There is a reason Tech is the top school in ISYE for 30 years!
Note that Wisconsin has engineering progression requirements to stay in the major, although IE only needs a 2.8 technical and 2.5 overall GPA in college.
I don’t think it matters - rank and all.
PIck the one you like. If you are sold on the roommate, then it’s ok to stay. Both are fine schools.
Are both affordable? Have you visited both?
Do both schools offer the concentration that interests you?
You don’t go to Georgia Tech for the accommodations if that’s important. Most move off-campus after freshman year.
S20 is an ISyE grad. It’s an excellent program.
