Georgia Tech

Hello,

I am currently a senior in Georgia. I moved to the US from Finland in 2009 and started US school in November of my freshman year. Unfortunately, the registration for next years classes is always in January in my school. I was hesitant to select any AP courses because my experience of the class rigor was very limited being that I had only been in school for two months. Right now I have only taken 1 AP class (chemistry, 4 on AP exam), and I am taking AP statistics and AP biology this year.

Unweighted GPA 3.9

SAT: 1940 (660 critical reading, 690 math, 580 writing)
I am planning on retaking this in October and hopefully scoring 2000+.

Class rank 19/347 (top 6%)

Classes:
AP classes after graduation: 3
3 years of Spanish

Extracurriculars:
Now this is my weakest part. I have never been in a club, community service etc. involvement. I really didn’t realize their importance being that in Finland we have no clubs in schools. However, my school just opened Mu Alpha Theta this year, which I joined a few days ago (math has always interested me).

I am here in the USA under my dad’s work visa. I just got my own working license in April, so I really didn’t have the chance to work earlier. This June I worked in a big industrial company’s receiving department, and I am planning to go work in the Master’s Tournament in Augusta.

I have seen a lot of debate whether weightlifting counts as an extracurricular or not. I use a lot of my free time to go hit the gym (6+ hours a week) so I think it is something worth mentioning. Anyway, I have lifted weights since the spring of 2009, and continued to this day on average 4 days a week, having no major breaks whatsoever.

Awards:
Georgia Certificate of Merit
National Spanish Honor Society
Foreign Language Honor Society
I think I forgot something here…

Other information worth noting:
Back in Finland I took 5 years of German and 3 years of Swedish. So I have five languages that I am able to speak, two which I am fluent in (English and Finnish).

Does being a Finn living in Georgia affect my chances? (do colleges make any amends for foreign students?)
Do you guys think I have any chances of getting in?

Thanks! :)
