GERMAN afterthoughts

Was haben Sie heute an jene Prüfung gedacht? There probably aren’t that many CCers here to whom this question pertains.

I think the multiple choice will kill my score. I understand nearly everything I read, but I could barely figure out the correct answers to the question. The verbal exchanges were also way too long to remember. Writing down things didn’t help much.

That essay and paragraph with blanks were quite easy, and although I had been dreading the speaking part, I think that went all right. But I still totally screwed up one or two rejoinders.

Woah, someone else who took the German test! I feel the same as you about the different sections. I was dreading the speaking part, but I think that my answers were at least decent. Ha, I wrote that I wouldn’t allow College Board to use my speaking responses in case they were horrible. But I’m sure that they weren’t. I stumbleed a bit during a couple of the rejoinders, but the picture sequence wasn’t bad. I owned the writing section though, especially the essay. I can feel it. Plus, now I think I might be pyschic, because I was thinking about what I would write if a question like that ended up being the essay. I even looked up a couple of words that would be pertinent ahead of time just in case. O___O

This is my more detailed self-analysis.

Essay-- I know I did well. A couple months ago my teacher made up this prompt for us to answer. I wrote about Italy.

Paragraph fill-ins-- I feel so confident about that part that I think I may have gotten nearly every blank correct.

Picture sequence-- So easy. I don’t think I could have gotten luckier. I stumbled a few times, but I think I expressed my narration fluently enough.

Rejoinders-- Out of six, I know I did three pretty well. Two are kind of shaky, and one was totally messed up. For that one, I said, “Ich habe keine Idee, was diese Frage mich fragt.”

Listening MC-- Picking the appropriate responses to the conversational exchanges was pretty straightforward and simple. The longer conversations and following questions were difficult. I always found myself understanding the conversation but not being able to figure out the right answers. Sounds paradoxical, but it’s totally true.

Reading MC-- Again, I understood for the most part what I was reading, and I usually narrowed down the answers to two. I had such trouble with the Theater passage; I couldn’t figure out whether he liked it or not, but I assumed he didn’t. The penguins and tissues were good, though!

I answered all 70 MC questions. Do you know approximately how many I can get wrong (but do well on the FR) and still ensure a 5? A 4?

I did like totally opposite of y’all. I thought the short directed responses were harder and the long ones were really easy. I could pick the answer without hearing the question. The reading was easy because the answers were all almost word for word in the passages. He liked it by the way, it changed him or something like that. I was confused about what I should have done in Konjunktiv because part of the question was defentily in it. I did it on Muenchen. I think I only missed a couple on the Lueckentext and my Bildergeschichte was average.
I think I got a 4/5. I didn’t think it was too hard.

Glitterhairdye: München? Did what on München? Maybe we had different forms, but I doubt it, since we’re both on the east coast.

How 6570882 did Italy I wrote abount Munchen. I don’t wnat to be specific because I don’t want them to delete this thread.
And they don’t ever use different forms. I think they even re-use some parts simply because they have to go through so much clearance in making these tests.

I was making generalized statements. I discussed nothing.

But that question asked about a country, not a city. And I’m pretty sure that they use different forms for international tests.

I don’t think they made a different format for internationals. I myself just took it yesterday and the questions seem all the same. well afterall there are only like 4000 kids who take it every year, right? BTW, does anybody know how missing out on the last two pictures affect the grade? i was on the fourth picture when the time lapsed. I had taken the 2002 AP and i think part 1 has gotten harder than it used to be but let’s hope for the best… :)

All right, self analysis time.

Essay: Killed it. Easy topic, easy to use all your fancy sentence structure, vokabel, etc, on. :-)

Fill in the blank: Got it all except for maybe one, and I’m pretty sure that I put something in there that makes sense.

Picture Sequence: easy story, I got a little bit wrapped up in the details so I didn’t have time to finish the 6th one. oops. (I’m taking german 3, so I haven’t been doing AP prep stuff in class…)

Rejoinders: Farily easy. I didn’t do too well on the first one, lots of "um"s, but after that they got much better. There were2 very similar ones!!

Listening MC: Incredibly, incredibly, incredibly easy. Could’ve done 'em last year in Deutsch Eins. Long dialogs were nice b/c you could basically tell the answer before they asked the question, haha.

Reading MC: I saw the first one, went AHHH THAT IS A LOT OF TEXT IN ONE BLOCK!! (Again, German 3 = read 2 paragraphs. double spaced.) but once I got over the initial shock, it wasnt too bad. Takes 2 readings/text though: 1) translate. 2) understand. Finished that part with tons of extra time.

I think i didnt answer like 2 MCs…anybody have any knowledge about the curves?

I think 4/5, more likely 4. For SURE at least a 3. Since this is only my 2nd year of German, and I’m not a native speaker, that ain’t too bad. :-). And I have 2 years to redo it if I completely failed. (which is highly unlikely…) Good luck on everything else!!

StolzerPilz: I think as long as you get to 4 pictures, you’re fine.

Hallo, gelehrte.

I took it for the first/last time last year. I somehow got a 5, but I must confess that I (willfully) decided to halt further study and move on to another germanische Sprache, in this case Dansk (D

isn’t it at the head that you use sth like liebe(r) and at the end it’s just dein oder deine…

can somebody as respond to this?

Denken Sie, dass “Enkel” für Nummer 20 passend sein könnte?

SP: Whoops, you are correct! Strong endings for the heading, weak ones for the closing.

<a href=“Oxford Languages | The Home of Language Data”>Oxford Languages | The Home of Language Data;

6570: Es macht Sinn. Also, ja.

oops, sorry i didn’t see that posthumous had already replied… btw… i’m realizing that us 3 are pretty much going around putting posts here… but i’m just sooo happy that a GERMAN thread is constantly on the first page… haha… ja was just a thought :)
