"Get out the vote" group brings bus to bring senior citizens to vote, county tells them to get off

It isn’t just college students who have to be concerned about being denied the right to vote (or right to have their votes counted).

Voter disenfranchisement in Georgia needs a serious investigation, with criminal charges if necessary.

This happened in 2016 in Pennsylvania too – I helped to bring a bus to a senior center and we were told to immediately leave the premises and could not pick up the voters there to bring them to the polls, regardless of their party registration.

Sad but true.

Is that a liability issue? We had a problem while my mother was in a facility when a church group tried to pick her up with a couple of other people. The facility wouldn’t allow them to be transported from the premises in an unaffiliated vehicle.

It might be but it’s also possible that they just didn’t want to bother.

That’s the excuse they offered, but in this case it looks trumped up and after the fact, not a rule that is generally applied. At first, the county said Black Voters Matter shouldn’t have been there because they’re a political organization, but in fact they’re non-partisan and would allow any voters on the bus, and moreover they had gotten advance permission to be at the center.

Oh yeah, a non-partisan organization. That’s a good one.

Look into it just a little. To quote their founder, “We have a particular kind of framework that says there are red-states and blue states,” Brown said. “If you use that as your analysis around who’s progressive and who’s not progressive, then you completely overlook that there are progressive pockets of voters in the Deep South.”

Now I am hoping there is a full investigation on this, because on first glance it seems incredibly wrong that this happened, even to a political organization. But lets not fool ourselves that this is a non-partisan group, they are trying to find the progressive voters in Georgia and Alabama. I am curious who actually funds them.

Sure, let’s reveal all the funding for PACs, political organizing groups, issue and candidate ads. I’m all in.

If these adults are competent enough to vote, they may also choose their method of transportation to the polls and if necessary waive any associated liability. I hope the voter registrar hand deliver provisional ballots to them after this event. Adults can chose anyone of any or no affiliation to transport them to polling locations.

^^^ This, times a thousand.

Early voting started today. In Arkansas a candidates name was left off the ballot, they still haven’t figured out if they will count those votes. Voters are disenfranchised in many different ways.
