Did anyone else receive a huge poster thing with a packet in the mail? There was no letter or anything, but it says “get your kilt on.” Does this mean anything or are they just teasing us?

when did you receive this?

Yeah, I got it a few months ago.

i got this yesterday. soadquake, did you apply early decision?

Yeah I got mine. I’m not sure that it means anything, since they aren’t tying it with any sort of admission decisions, but I don’t see why they would send it out this late if they already know a lot of the people who are going to get rejected. It definitely seems like an attempt to win people over from HYPSM.

@soadquake

Are you sure its the same one? Did you apply RD?

My son got it also about two weeks ago. He applied RD…

i just think it is strange they would be sending it to us now, considering they obviously don’t need to get us to apply. hopefully, we all get in, it’s would be kind of mean to send us a huge packet saying how awesome cmu is and then to ghave them reject us

I got this a few months ago.

No, I didn’t apply early decision. I’m RD. And yes, I’m sure it’s the same one you’re all referring to – it’s a fairly large package wrapped in cellophane, if I recall correctly, and it has a large picture of a kilt and even a hanger, I think.

Same thing with phone call from them. Not sure what the point is of reaching out to kids who have already applied??

^ I think they just want to see if they can answer any questions while we all wait.

Weird, it seems like everyone already got it… I just got it in the mail yesterday. I live in Chicago and I applied RD to H&SS.

We are in the near west suburbs of Chicago and my daughter received her “Get your kilt on” mailing yesterday (March 9). She applied RD. So maybe they send these mailings out regionally? And this has got to be reasonably good news, right? As someone said above, it would be truly cruel to send something now about how cool the school is if the applicant is going to receive a rejection notice in 2 weeks.

I didn’t get the “get kilt on” mail. I am an international applicant. I only got a mail with ID pages, Viewbook and a CD in it. And that was over a month ago.

I got this a while ago too. I’m applying to CFA, so my application was in before December 1st, which may be why I got it it earlier.

I never got a phone call though… but after having two separate interviews and talking to a current student… I don’t think It would have been of much help to me :)

RD applicant here, got it today. Looked like a “big envelope” from the front, I had a mini heart attack when I first saw it. That was NOT nice, CMU admissions!

Hahaha, Cornell sent me a huge book with high res photos of Ithaca saying WELCOME TO CORNELL… on the cover or something along those lines. They rejected me a week later. Those turds.

I hope CMU isn’t that mean though :p

i don’t think it means you’re accepted seeing as everyone i know who applied received one :(

however…it did make me laugh

Seeing that Kate is at CMU…can you peek into the window at Warner Hall…are there stacks of those posters ready to leave? Fat Letters piled high ready to be mailed…???

LOL

Nope-- it’s not actually funny-- and hopefully CMU is not sending posters to 26,000 applicants this late in the game but only a smaller targeted population… Otherwise, that’s easily $4 postage and glossy print material per applicant wasted…enough to fund 2 students on a full ride! (next year’s COA is $55k+ ouch…from a school that does NOT guarantee to meet full need past freshman year)

I haven’t got such mail! does that mean I am very likely to be rejected? I am an international! anyone knows?
